LINCOLN – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts and First Lady Susanne Shore revealed the design of the next general issue Nebraska license plate. The design is a mosaic pattern depicting the Genius of Creative Energy and is based on artwork inside the Nebraska Capitol Building.

The original “Genius of Creative Energy” mosaic kicks off a series of mosaics around the Nebraska Capitol, all working together to relate the State’s history to the ideals of Western Civilization. Designed by world-renowned artist Hildreth Meiere in 1927, the Genius brandishes a lightning bolt in his right hand and is propelled across the sky by harnessing the power of the four elements.

The license plate design pays homage to this Genius and all the mosaics in the Nebraska Capitol depicting Nebraskans’ shared story. It was designed by Nebraska-based brand and design consultant Drew Davies. “I'm deeply honored to have the opportunity to design a license plate celebrating the creative energy of all Nebraskans," Davies shared.

“I want to thank the countless Nebraskans who have come to us with ideas and feedback over the years,” said First Lady Susanne Shore. “Ultimately, we found a design that every Nebraskan can relate to. I especially want to thank Drew for unleashing his creative genius to depict our state’s own.”

If I were to guess the underlay is going to be glazed so the light reflects in vertical bands for visibility. Design is fine, I like the plainer one they have now though.

The article is riddled with Outlook link protection, very boomer.

Meh, but literally no one associates Nebraska with the spirt of creative genuis. It is sort of like when KY had their education first campaign. Like they can put it on the state entry signs, but ain't nobody buying that, lol.

It looks okay, I guess. At least it's not an obese black woman.
Every era in Japanese history has an official name, called a nengo, decided by the government. The name is meant to encapsulate the zeitgeist of the era, as well as a reminder of what the Japanese should aspire to. The current era is reiwa, which means "beautiful harmony". Before that, heisei: "become peace".

I think "at least it's not an obese black woman" should be the official nengo of the Current Year era. It goes through all of our heads at least once per day.

If they hadn't mentioned that it was based on artwork seen in the State Capitol, I wouldn't even get how it's relevant to Nebraska which I associate more with... ummm... farms and that one insurance building in Omaha from the intro to About Schmidt (not to mention Alexander Payne's later movie Nebraska).

Also, of course, Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad asking "What's in Nebraska?" at the vacuum shop just before being given his new identity as Gene by Ed the Disappearer, to which Ed replies, "You." (and then the flash-forward scenes in Better Call Saul with "Gene" working at Cinnabon in the mall in Omaha).

Speaking of that: Nebraska adopted Kentucky's new license plate font

top one maybe a bit sus, but still basically geared towards Greco-Roman ideals. Also they were kinda gay by our standards, except they thought that being a bottom was the worst thing you could ever be.
Well it was designed by a Woman in the 1920s.

The women she drew were pretty nice.

Anyone here play slugbug? We need a new name and roadgame for hitting people when we see a naked gay dude on a Nebraska plate out-of-state.
