So I didn't count it. I see it as independent of MeToo. Because it predates it and especially since the country was partisanly divided on Kavanaugh, despite how vacuous the allegations were, unlike MeToo where everyone wanted the status quo back.

Yeah. Depp sued the paper for calling him a wife beater. Amber was a witness for them, not for herself. The journalists had special protections, and also plausible deniability about what they believed. Despite this, they still had a crooked judge, Amber lying, and evidence from Depp blocked by the court before they came to their conclusion that the magazine hadn't defamed him. And because the judge was biased it made extra rulings that were unnecessary and not at issue, like 'oh he definitely abused her because Amber could not have abused him'.

If MeToo wasn't in the headlines it would be seen as Thomas Redux. If they could find someone to testify that Kavanaugh tortured small animals they'd have tried that.
The essence of what I was talking about was entertainers and how people have weird, overly charitable relationships with them as well. Kavanaugh wouldn't fall under that. He was just a shorthand for Trump. So it operated under different physics. It was about how badly people wanted to own Trump, while the public reaction to MeToo was about how much they liked an accused entertainer. Hence why Weinstein went down: nobody gave a fuck about some producer.

Dems basically saw Kavanaugh as a bad person because Trump liked him. This is different from the example I gave of accusing someone like Weird Al where no large group of people would have a pre-arranged reason to hate him.

Nobody argued she's an imperfect victim. Nobody argued Depp wasn't 'so bad'. The actual trial showed that Amber actually abused Depp. Not that there wasn't enough evidence to convince people that Amber was abused - though that was also there - but that Amber straight up abused Depp. The women who don't like Amber hate Amber because she's an abuser who is pretending to be a victim, not because they like Depp. This tweet is totally performative for news outlets and things like that, because the actual women they purport to speak to don't think any of this.
