I looked it up and Suicide rate for active troops as of 2020 is 28.7 deaths per 100,00 compared to the meme 41% of trannies (which i swear is higher now though i could be wrong) and with soliders its more understanding of why they would have mental issues if they fought in a war. what has keffals done? get called mean words on the interweb?

Of course, the real Gustav Hasford was anti war, not anti marine corps. He was a proud marine and loved his fellow soldiers. Ironically he hated people like Keffals, civilians who were so caught up in their own bullshit they genuinely believe just standing around complaining somehow makes a difference (it doesn't happen in the movie, but in the book he gets in front of everyone at an antiwar protest and calls them all morons) his self-insert character in the book was so disgusted with how cheap and plastic and fake American culture had become he actually defects to fight for the viet cong, because the Vietnamese still believed (at the time) in hard manual labor, people were judged by how much blood and sweat they put into helping the community grow food and defend their land in combat, rather than how good they were at political grandstanding and yelling into a microphone. (In real life he fucked off to a tiny Greek island to live alone until he died at age 45)
Hasford didn't even like Kubrick, who actually produced anything at all. I can't imagine what his opinion would've been about a person whose entire "job" is sitting in their room surrounded by plastic junk, playing video games and whining that the world isn't easy enough to be a sheltered, fat first-worlder in.
