Speaking of Sonic fans, this is the latest thing making the rounds and is the subject of several spergouts for and against it. The Chaomix guy in question seems to have been enjoying a massive spike in popularity since his 06 apologist video.

Your typical 'fictional character is XYZ alphabet person' and you're wrong if you think otherwise argument.
Oh great... as if I couldn't hate pride month any more

Although if we're going to be technical, SEGA started that shit first

Could've you at least embedded the vid?

To spare you 5 minutes of your life the blue blur is aromantic, which means that he isn't interested in romance and is an part of the LGBT spectrum (somehow.)
I barely know a thing about the comics, but I know enough about them to prove that Sonic being "aromantic" is bullshit. Sonic fucks, unlike the majority of his fanbase. I could be wrong about that last part if Dillan Thomas is to be believed lol

Mario Odyssey:
-Energetic Music
-Momentum when rolling down hill
-Quick snappy control
-Timed puzzles that test your skills and make you go fast.

Sonic Frontiers:
-Sleep inducing piano music
-You run at the same speed up a wall sideways as you do going downhill
-The same stiff, barely functional controls that Forces had, and also every modern Sonic game ever.
-Slow, mindless, pointless block puzzles.

It's over, Sonic bros. Just play Mario LMAO.

Bob, when did you get here?

And it doesn't need to be one sided, there's a game out there for both Sonic and Mario fans after all.

>Sonic can run on walls! That’s neat, right?
>Coins that look like they came from Super Mario Odyssey.
>The video we got today? Oddly empty.

<Now to be fair...
Bless their hearts... trying to be optimistic when they know it's going to be shit.
>there's a lot of walking in this trailer

I was optimistic up until the trailer, I thought negativity had to be exaggerated but...yeah, that looked awful. Unless they delay and overhaul the game it's probably going to be a mess.

Animations are worse than I thought, there were no enemies. Everything seemed aimless, boring, and generic. The world looks stitched together from random assets, and shit just plopped into the world at random, there's no cohesion.

They're going to need Sonic Mania 2 fast.

Great, now I have to pirate Sonic too. Nothing is left untouched by these sex monsters.

It looks like Rift Apart more than BOTW. You can tell they stole the grind rails from Ratchet & Clank. It also seems like the activities are more spaced out like Ratchet, whereas BOTW had you looking for stuff around every corner.
Muh korok seeds. BotW was bad too.

Why is Sonic Team so allergic to momentum and fun controls in 3D? The forces controls grafted into an open world looks so bad, which makes all the automation they've shown make a lot of sense.

Open world looks boring and lacking in content, and if I can't at least have fun running around the empty plains, then what's the point?

I really don't want the only truly good Sonic games to be the retro throw back ones and I feel like they really should just pull a Mania but for Modern Sonic, there are fans who could come together to make a really good 3D Sonic game, Sonic Omens and P06 being stand out cases.

Still don't want to fully give up hope and this game's story is being written by a Sonic fan but just saying that there are people artistically care enough about Sonic to make a good Modern Sonic game.

I was literally expecting fucking nothing and somehow this frontier shit its even less than nothing

You got open world fan games that are a million times better, this shit looks like a ue4 asset dump with generic animu piano music, why? who approves this shit? who looks at this pulsating abortion and thinks "thats a good game, greenlight this shit"?

How about making a new console? or making good games again?

No? import globohomo to animeland instead?

I bet they werent this cool with gay employees back in the 90s

Sanic had grinding rails since SA2 in 2001...

Even if it looked better I'm kinda sick of the whole "woooooaaaa sonic is epic and serious" thing, I would rather have it like colors where you start off right in the middle of eggman's city/amusement park and explore that, then run off to the grassy fields to head to the next area fucked by eggman or aliens or whatever the hell they're doing
To be fair, Sega has been staying away from the "epic and serious Sonic" for a good 10 years or so now, if they're finally giving him a good story or a plot where we can see both sides of him, then it's a step in the right direction. Especially after the fumble with Forces where they tried to do the Adventure style storyline, and it turned out horrible because they were to afraid to completely commit.
I think that's one of the things that surprisingly was Sonic's strong suit, the stories and characterization of 1998-2009 made Sonic's peak year as the characters and plot really carried the franchise. The games could be mediocre when it comes to gameplay and sometimes the stories could be kinda flat, but they still had depth and meaning to them, and you'd actually care about the characters because they were fully fleshed out, and not husks like they are now.
Returning back to that style of storytelling is a great way to draw in old fans who grew up with Sonic's plot based era, and the Sonic movie will draw in the younger or new audience who will probably expect a story after coming in from the movie, in all honesty.

The problem is journalists during that time, and they still have this problem, were always overly critical and for some reason thought that Sonic shouldn't be storybased, despite the fact there's always been that aspect. Just another reason why people shouldn't get paid to write articles on games because apparently all they hire is people with the worst takes.:( Now Sega's too afraid to commit to a story which leads to mediocre plots and mixing that with mediocre gameplay you get...the kinda stuff we've been getting ever since the 2010 recasting.

this game's story is being written by a Sonic fan

This might prove to go badly though in terms of direction of the series. Ian Flynn is a decent writer, but he also doesn't know how to write a lot of the characters and he tends to let personal bias get in the way which is....kinda worrying. He's not as bad as Penders, but he's also not a good person and his Sonic fanfiction before he became official? Uhhhhh, well it's honestly very telling of who he is.
Plus, he’ll probably either troon out one of the characters or make one gay out of nowhere given the way he works.
It would have probably been a better move to hire people from the Adventure age or hold an audition for a new writer, instead of just handing it off wherever. I still don't know how Pontac and Graff got hired, which just kinda shows they really need a better way to chose their members.

I don't understand why it's so fucking difficult to make good 3D Sonic. The only one I really liked was Generations and that was like 50% 2D perspective levels. The fans even laid the ground work years ago for what an open world Sonic could look like in Sonic Utopia.

Nobody asked for a ton of open world filler content. People don't want gay Ubisoft towers or puzzles. People want to go fast, and adding in all of this side shit only distracts from that objective. It's also funny how the Frontiers team don't even know how to design their own world space to take advantage of Sonic's moveset - so they end up adding in all of these awkwardly floating grind rails to create some semblance of a route the player can take.

The Sonic cycle made me already weary after the initial reveal trailer, but it seems we are already deep into disappointment territory and the game hasn't even released.

Because momentum is hard to design for or ensure the game doesn't shit itself with how fast Sonic is intended to move in 3D while having NextGenTM graphics. Unleashed struggles a lot even beyond the infamous slideshow section in one of the last day stages in the HD version, so while it looks beautiful the game has questionable performance even though it uses a lot of automation and linear design to keep Sonic in check. SA2 lets you clip out of shit or soar around the level (like in crazy gadget's last section), especially in Sonic's levels due to how whack the physics and level design are while SA2 is much more linear then SA1. SA1 really showed how giving Sonic momentum based movement lets him break the levels in half if he can get a decent vantage point to rocket himself around the level, which is fun but really jank by most standards. So they've since cucked Sonic's everything overtime in every 3D game since SA1, just put him in hallways so he doesn't break the levels, or use 2D so they have to try even less.

This issue of laziness/incompetence is even worse in open world games because by design you can't just shove a million hallways to force Sonic not to veer off the intended path, so they just automate everything besides Sonic's ground speed (for the most part) so Sonic doesn't break the level or physics. Giving Sonic actual momentum is too fun and janky, so let's just rub all that momentum out so the game functions 'as intended', badly. This is compounded if you try to make a proper Knuckles or Tails in 3D (see SA1 Tails) so they have to cuck them too with gameplay gimmicks or shitty everything, or even better just never make them never playable.

Sonic Team needs to just let Sonic games be a little broken and cheesy if you're willing to abuse the physics and mechanics, project 06 has some really wild stuff with Silver's Kingdom Valley section in Sonic's level and he doesn't move at 2 MPH in that game. Now Silver is actually not a terrible Sonic character to play and he doesn't even break the game much despite having moderately good flight and physics based mechanics.

A good 3D Sonic looks like it won't happen unless it's handed off, it would be best in Nintendo's hands. I'll be satisfied with good 2D Sonic games if they come out more often and innovate.

And when I say Sonic Mania 2, I really just mean any good 2D Sonic, it doesn't have to be in the vein of Mania. Sonic 5 is probably a ruined name though after Sonic 4.
