they're part of a coalition with SPD and FDP, being the second biggest party, so take that as you will. iirc they have bigger numbers in south-western germany (while bavaria has pretty always been ruled by the CSU (merkel's sister party)).
the greens are the safe and socially acceptable "fuck you" choice, which also makes people feel good about themselves because the greens "want to save the planet and stuff", while I never met anyone who really takes them serious (they started in the 80's with the image of like filthy hippies protesting against nuclear power) besides true believers and idiots that think electric cars will save us all. they win just by association with all the MUH CLIMATE fearmongering.
the problem with german politics is that there isn't really an alternative to the established parties. some people like to jerk themselves off over "muh choice" (instead of having 2 parties), but that's what it basically boils down to. and like the rest of the western world the more center-right party has slowly drifted further and further left (who would've thought given merkel was their chancellor for 15 years and given her GDR roots), making the "choice" even more pointless.
then you have to consider the other circumstances: going full retard with covid, big flood in 2021 (which was politicized as fuck, and blamed on climate change of course), people slowly getting sick of merkel (especially after the "we can do it" of 2015 importing over million
immigrants rocket scientists, but was still considered the "best" choice). so when the federal election was coming up in late 2021, who were you supposed to vote for? the same people who were retarded for over a decade? the other retards who were equally bad, if not worse, but looked better on paper? the one party that covers everything from the center to the far right who constantly gets called nazis because of it (absolutely nothing is more verboten than even thinking of moving right for just an inch, just think of germany's inherited guilt!) and basically runs on CDU's party program from the 90's (sound familiar?) - so they pick green.
the reason you see absolutely retarded shit is in their post-nut-clarity after winning the election, they noticed shit's actually bad and requires proper fixing, and they're now in charge of it. in comes putin and waves his dick around, suddenly there's another war in europe with someone who doesn't give a shit what the west thinks and knows they have to suck his gas-cock anyway. you could consider it biden lite that a protest vote put people in charge that would usually just coast by, but when shit gets real are utterly worthless - and worse, there's no replacement or alternative.
Also I read some comments that the current EU fuhrer commission head Ursula was such an incompetent minister in Germany that she was effectively banished to Brussels but is now using the current crisis to live out her dictator fantasies and driving the continent into economic oblivion. Again, if there any politically savvy Germans have some insights on this person I'd be interested in in their opinions.
imo she was always considered pretty worthless, even unteralterbach made fun of her
this is not a promotion, the info is readily available. there were also some big irregularities when she was minster of defense, but since no one gives a shit about the bundeswehr (anything else would be nazi and considered trying to establish a fourth reich) with all it it's corruption and mismanagement, she got a pass. to understand how little german politicians thinks of their army, before becoming minister of defense she was minister of family, then labor/social. if that doesn't make sense you're absolutely right, and is another proof that german ministers are usually worthless in general.
ironically all the people who were shitting on germany and it's army for years are now getting moist about having their own army again to go against putin, after neglecting it for decades. so on top of having no money for shit anyway, their retarded politics gonna be issues for years (germany is third after france/uk for business investments) they now want to play little USA.
