I absolutely concur with you. Kim's son is a great example of this. He could have been in a special Ed preschool since 3 yrs old in some states. In my home state, Head Start starts at INFANCY. He would receive services that would really help him.

But I'm sure Kim can't be assed to get up early enough in the morning to get Aydean clean and dressed and ready for a bus by 8am!

I don't know why more of these girls don't take advantage of educational opportunities. I can't speak for Arkansas,but in my state most people qualify to attend a two year community college free of charge.

I realize that they still have to work out transportation and childcare logistics but a free two year degree can lift you out of poverty if nothing else. You can get better paying jobs BUT you have to want better.

I think it comes down to what Thomas Sowell said about white and black trash culture, which is that it’s chiefly characterized by not thinking ahead. They won’t put in the half hour of effort to get their kids ready for the bus, even if it equals 4-8 hours of free babysitting.

I might actually believe this one, since University of Phoenix will admit anyone with a high school diploma who can get student loans, especially federal loans. A lot of the online/for-profit institutions will have advisors, "success coaches," or something like that, so that could be who Sammie thinks is "her teacher." Still, my assumption is that she's lying and imitating someone in her orbit who is a University of Phoenix student.

An associate's degree, as long as it's in an actual thing (i.e. not an associate of arts or something), is far more valuable than an overpriced bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix or Colorado Tech or somewhere like that. Still, like you point out, that requires a desire to actually do better, not just while pursuing the degree, but after (case in point, Chris' CADD degree), and they'd much rather put in the least effort possible.

As far as potty training goes, they just have to put him in there as often as possible until it clicks, basically. The fact that he is still in a diaper/pullup at this point is sheer laziness on Kim's part. How old is he? He should have been potty trained by 3 at the latest. He only seems delayed because of his environment, in my opinion. If he had been in school, he would probably be on par with children his age, or very close to it.

And yes, we get parents who are just in it for the free care, but for the most part, they're pretty decent and do care about their child and their education. There are a lot of requirements to have your child in the program, unfortunately working and/or being in school isn't one of them. But that's not the majority, luckily.

He could absolutely have a functional life if intervention happened early, but it’s most likely not.
These are his formative years and Kim doesn’t give two shits about early intervention or even potty training.

Not only is that lazy, it’s so expensive.
Potty training is frustrating sometimes but letting the child do it when they’re ready is important, and he’s beyond ready.

She would have to be consistent and attentive to make sure he uses the bathroom every 20 minutes to a half hour until he gets it, and be positive while she does it or she’s going to give this poor kid a “you pissed your bed again you’re so fucking stupid” complex.
