Meet Harlan Dale Absher Jr./II AKA The Santa Cruz Joker
Harlan has been active online since at least 2015, and throughout this time has created a wealth of lolcow-worthy content under various monikers. Unfortunately, he has gone largely(like 300+ pounds large) undocumented. Best known for being a liberal whose liberal use of the word nigger betrays his insane and Trump obsessed leftist rants, his newest persona The Santa Cruz Joker will have you laughing for all the wrong reasons.
Early Life
- Harlan Dale Moncrief was born Harlan Dale Absher Jr. to his father Harlan Dale Absher Sr. and mother Janet Moncrief in Stanislaus County in the month of November 1989.
- He grew up obsessed with Harry Potter, so much so that he would go to school dressed as him, magic-marker lightning bolt scar and all. This type of behavior got him bullied during his time at school. In Harlan’s case bullying was not effective, and he would continue to take on the personas of a slew pop culture figures and alter-egos throughout the years.
- He has been known online as many names: The Harlan Show, Classy News, Lunatic Leonard, and Gaming with Harlan. But the longest running, and arguably most unhinged, of these would be The Santa Cruz Joker. Want to know how he got these scars?
Lunatic Leonard
- Arguably Harlan’s descent into madness began with his Lunatic Leonard channel. Lunatic Leonard was Harlan’s alter ego who he styled after the then massively popular Filthy Frank. His videos consisted of what he considered to be edgy rants.
- You can get a feel for his style in this clip from Youtuber I Hate Everything in which Harlan briefly appeared. This gave Harlan’s ego quite a boost, emboldening him to begin commenting on other youtube culture events and personalities.
- One of Lunatic Leonard's lowest moments involves his apartment sink overflowing due to his neighbors use of the garbage disposal and the ensuing verbal conflict(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ymj4Ivcb9xc)
- In 2016 as Lunatic Leonard he released two videos targeting popular youtuber LeafyIsHere.
- This didn’t accomplish anything other than gain Harlan more haters, one of which was Dillin Thomas, who by all accounts mildly criticized Harlan in the comments of the video. Harlan was sent into a fit of rage and would begin a small feud that Harlan cannot stop mentioning to this day. Again, he would continue this behavior.

The Santa Cruz Joker
- Harlan took on the persona of the Santa Cruz Joker after his previous channel “Lunatic Leonard” began to fail in what he believed was a response to the state of society in his city of Santa Cruz.
- Harlan would continue to make the angry rant videos he was accustomed to in the abundance of free time he has from being a unemployed drug user who collects government assistance for his alleged bad back. The only noticeable difference between these videos and his Lunatic Leonard days was his amateur clown facepaint job, sickly green hair, and awful Joker impressions.
- One of his most notable qualities is his juxtaposition of stereotypical leftist/SJW talking points with the inability to stop using the words nigger or faggot. It began with one of his many videos criticizing then president Donald Trump, wherein he called Trump a nigger. After catching flak for this rather than apologize Harlan decided to double down, claiming his slurs to be justified. He continued to justify his use of the word faggot by revealing he was a practicing bisexual.
- Harlan constantly has meltdowns over criticism of his use of these slurs on livestreams, videos, and the community tab of his Santa Cruz Joker channel. It doesn’t take more than a single comment in live chat to completely derail Harlan’s comic book reading or gaming streams for hours at a time.
- One could argue that his politics are a direct result of popular culture, but more interesting is the story of his father, Harlan Dale Absher Senior. Harlan no longer uses his father’s last name, instead adopting his mother's maiden name: Moncrief. Why, you ask? Because Harlan Sr. was a neo-nazi, complete with a swastika tattoo! Harlan often tells stories of how his parents met, with his father being a neo-nazi in a drug addiction recovery center and his mother an employee at that same facility. It seems that this drug-laden neo-nazi past caught up to Harlan’s father, resulting in what Harlan claims was his murder by one of his close friends when Harlan was young. Harlan sheds no tears for his formerly fascist father, often proudly boasting about how he hates his father and everything he represents. Harlan Sr.'s body has never been found.
- Despite his moniker, Harlan never actually lived in Santa Cruz. Instead he would regularly head out to the city center in full joker attire by way of public transportation known as a bus from the town of Watsonville . These ventures into the city mostly saw Harlan befriending(buying drugs from) the many homeless people of Santa Cruz, bar hopping, and performing at his favorite haunt, the local karaoke bar.
- It was these adventures that would lead to several of Harlan’s darkest moments.
The Date Rape Attempt
- Amongst his many homeless friends at the time were:
- Samuel Battle AKA Driftwood( shown on the right in the image below)
- Michael AKA Igglybuff( shown on the left in the image below)
- Harlan spent many nights roaming the streets of Santa Cruz with these two, trading alcohol for drugs with the locals and jumping from bar to bar. On one of these nights a woman witnessed Harlan slip something she believed to be a date rape drug into her drink. This girl was a friend of the bartender, who promptly threw Harlan out.
- Texts about the event have surfaced.
- This video was taken by the woman who made the claims.
- Harlan claims that he never attempted to date rape the woman, instead blaming his ejection from the bar on the bottle of vodka he kept in his jacket.
- This event would lead to a schism between the three compadre’s once the other two learned of the alleged date rape attempt by their once friend Harlan. Harlan accused Driftwood of being a murderer and a racist himself and Driftwood accused Harlan of threatening to rape his mother.
- This conflict would span a few weeks, even causing Driftwood and Igglybuff to don their own Joker and Harley Quinn outfits downtown on one occasion
The Breadening: Feb 23 2020
- With threats being made through social media, the conflict came to it’s spectacular and violent conclusion. In an attempt to prove he was not afraid and that the Santa Cruz Joker still ruled the streets Harlan began the livestream that would come to be known as “The Breadening”.
- The stream begins with a musical intro where Harlan literally sings a monologue about his intentions for the night.
- He then makes his way to the corner where most of his vagrant acquaintances spent their evenings. After meeting up with a guitar playing pirate and a guy playing a banjo(banjo man will be important later) he finally meets face to face with Driftwood. Driftwood's mom was present as well and Driftwood accused SCJ of wanting to rape her. They exchange insults and threats while the music interlude continues in the background until a lowly bread salesman stops and offers the two a loaf in what can only be interpreted as an attempt to make the two literally break bread. One of Driftwood’s friends grabs the loaf and promptly throws it into Harlan’s face, setting off a hilarious chain of events. Harlan quickly maces the two black men, and Driftwood begins the fist fight, eventually taking Harlan to the ground for a few decent hits.
- Harlan scrambles to his feet and dusts himself off, again hurling insults. Harlan and his crew then leave and make their way through the Santa Cruz streets. At one point a random motorist stops his vehicle in the street to exclaim that they recognize him from coverage on the youtube channel Pod Awful.
- As Harlan continues to cope a new danger closes in, the banjo man from before. Acting in revenge for Harlan “macing his homie” he begins giving the fat joker his second beating of the night. After this tussle is broken up a thoroughly abused Harlan expands on his previous coping, ending his stream with his makeup smeared all over his clothing and a noticeable patch missing from his head of green hair.

The Santa Cruz Batman and the Pedo Texts
In Videos showing the alleged instagram DM's surfaced from a source calling themselves "The Santa Cruz Batman" claiming that he received these messages from a friend of the victim. The DM's include what can only be assumed to be a censored image of Harlan's penis. After sending these DM's to multiple people the Santa Cruz Batman has not been able to be contacted. One could argue that many of the best Santa Cruz Joker moments have happened as a direct result of his interaction with a youtube channel called Pod Awful . There are 3 people Harlan cannot resist mentioning in any rant: Driftwood, Trump, and Jesse from Pod Awful.Although Harlan would go on to tell many very different versions of their initial interaction, it really was a simple exchange on twitter. Harlan made a tweet joking about something along the lines of "I'll take dead niggers for 200 Bob!" to which Jesse would ask "what do you mean?" As shown in the screenshot below, you can see he confused The Price Is Right host Bob Barker for Jeopardy host Alex Trebek, and replied smugly back without realizing his error. Jesse went on to correct him. Pretty typical twitter interaction, right?
This small interaction would go on to shape the next few years of Harlan's life. He would have you believe that the first interaction was over a "kill all Trump supporting nazi's" type of tweet he put out, and that this made Jesse very angry. Or the other alternate history that Harlan likes to use from time to time: that he responded positively to Jesse requesting him to come onto the Pod Awful show, but at the last moment somebody warned him that he was a horrible racist and he cut ties with Jesse, supposedly making him assmad for the rest of his life that the Santa Cruz Joker would not be a guest on the show. Nope. It was just a minor spat on twitter over Bob Barker.
The Breadening was a direct result of Pod Awful's interactions with Harlan's former friends Driftwood and Igglybuff. It was Jesse who revealed the date rape allegations to the pair, who up until that time had bought Harlan's bogus vodka bottle story. In the weeks after Santa Cruz Joker would challenge Jesse to fights at public locations in Santa Cruz, and vice versa. After a few of these back and forths, the threats of violence between Harlan and Driftwood began as a way to prove if Joker was really afraid to show his face downtown. The Joker and Harley Quinn outfits that Driftwood and Igglybuff would later wear were also supplied by Pod Awful. Harlan would be found to be "legally too racist and gay to testify" against Driftwood in a federal hate crime case in which Driftwood was the victim. This happened after Pod Awful trolls flooded both lawyers' emails with video evidence of Harlan calling Driftwood a nigger and a faggot on multiple occasions, interspersed with Harlan threatening Driftwood's life.
Harlan's interactions with Pod Awful over the years would lead to him deleting videos, channels, and changing account names. Much of the deleted old Santa Cruz Joker footage was only available on the Pod Awful channel, but since the original Pod Awful channel was deleted there is a large hole in the records. Members of the community are working to restore this video content, at which time I'll add it to the thread.
Being Sent Bread
Due to constant requests for his haters to "do something" or to stop him, there have been persistent efforts to locate his home address. After sending many recon coleslaw deliveries via various delivery services to a number of possible addresses there was finally a confirmed hit. After receiving what he claims to be $700 worth of bread and rubber gloves, he has resorted to chasing and threatening any delivery drivers before they even get to his door.

This stream came minutes after on of Harlan's comic book read along streams was raided with negative comments. He ended that stream (and later deleted it) claiming he needed to make some camera adjustments to better show the comic book. He came back and made this stream, originally titled "The History of The Santa Cruz Joker".
