I think the issue here from reading Null’s post(s) about this is that the Thunderdome has gotten an image of being some sort of refugee camp for everyone who got banned from other websites for having “the wrong opinion”. (I mean, the registration has been closed after Russia crossed into Ukraine, a white guy shot up a grocery store in a black neighborhood, and a school shooting in a majority Hispanic city near the border with Mexico). I’m not sure if that reputation can be shed or if “the exiles” (as I like to call them) can ever be stopped from saying things like “Journalists are the enemy of the people” or talking about and calling for the right wing revolution that’s right around the corner, man. The way I see it is having a widget thing with the guidelines. Like how “hide your power level” has “This isn’t your blog and we’re not an asylum”, I think there’s a way you can have something like “Nobody cares if you consider yourself ‘based and redpilled’. While the Farms welcomes those who tend to go ‘against the grain’ of public opinion, this isn’t a place to air grievances about those you hate, nor is it a place to be an advocate for your beliefs”. (Wording could be different, but you get the idea.)

Also, I agree with the talk of fedposting. If you fed post, you. Are. Gone. Banned from the Thunderdome and you may be subject to having your account permabanned from KF as a whole.

As for the probationary period for new users to “lurk and understand the culture”, Couldn’t that be spread to the rest of the site? (Except Off-Topic, that board seems like a chill place to shoot the shit that wouldn’t be out of place on any other website.) Is the Dome a special brand all its own?

Finally, I think the Pastadome (or something like it), should be utilized more. That was said to be a place where users could argue all day and anything went, from one word replies to GIFs to user insults. It’d be a special kind of Spergatory where all the stickers can be used to their full extent.

Those are my thoughts, but hey, I’m some nobody who nobody would consider for a mod position ever.

Forums are first content, second discussion. You post something a lolcow did/ something about a tv series you saw... well probably a vtuber/something about a news article you read. Or you comment about someone posted on it. Yeah you also talk and it's a big part, but it's still the second thing you do. 'Here's a funny video, image, post, article, what do you think'. That's what forums are.

And debate is not a thing on forums. Debate is a formal discussion. Casual discussions are 'discussions', 'small talk' or 'arguments'. The fact we use debate nowadays to refer to anything from forum shitposting to youtubers screaming at each other is worse than 'literal' and 'phobic'.

Don't debate things on forums, don't try to go for 'a higher standard of discussion', don't try to go 'we must represent every opinion so there's diversity of thought'.

Encourage content you'd like to see.

so it's like he doesn't know what content he'd prefer to see on A&H and that fucks up any moderation he tries to implement. Or rather he doesn't like any political content because he thinks he's helpless and so doesn't want to think about it.
And most A&H people like the content presumable so they'd just want more of the same.
And anyone else want to turn it into something else which wouldn't be the right way to go either.

If it's not moderated properly, that's what happens. Every fucking time. Some clique will take the place over and their numbers will make it so exhausting to argue with them that people stop bothering and it becomes a hugbox. There's an irony that free discussion requires active moderation, but those are just the dynamics of forums.

Well congratulations, I have a solution to all our problems. You leftists can just put us rightoids on your community ignore list and we'll put all of you on ours. That way we can all enjoy the forum under the illusion we have an unchallenged political consensus and never interact with each other, separate but equal, like giant pussies. We can even make new users answer political questionnaires to determine what side they fall on so they can only see their side of the discussion when they enter the forum, blissfully unaware that an 'other' exists.

Naturally, people who get fence sitter scores will be rejected from signup until they can makeup their minds about what their political convictions really are.

Of course we have to have rules and moderation about changing your mind, it's fine and dandy to sign up with a predetermined political outlook but changing your mind once you're already here must be a ban-worthy offense, no switching sides because that creates an awareness that other-think exists.

There will be no nuanced political sub-groups either, there will be no libertarians or socialists, only left and right. If a rightoid disagrees with the supermajority on unconditional abortion bans in cases of rape or incest, they get banned. If a lefty disagrees about banning guns because they believe in home defense, gone.

It'll be a perfect, saturated, curated, sterilized and utopian hugbox.
