Sony hate thread

I would have said Nintendo since the Gamecube and 64 controller are a bit of a clusterfuck,
I'll give you that the N64 Controller was very poorly designed from a layout standpoint and uncomfortable to hold, but its the controller that gave us rumble and popularized the analog stick, so it gets points for innovation, just like the original NES controller gave us the basic modern controller layout and D-Pad, while the SNES gave us the modern four face buttons (ABXY) and introduced shoulder buttons (L/R). Nintendo were always the ones truly pushing controller innovation.

The Gamecube though, I'm going to say you are wrong on that one. Its the best modern controller design, hands down. It is far more comfortable than any modern design, with amazingly designed analog triggers and a very comfortable grip. Nintendo switched the position of the D-Pad and Left analog stick to differentiate from Sony's Dual Analog and Dual Shock controllers, and that has largely become the industry standard. Look there is a reason that people still use Gamecube controllers till this day, and its honestly a travesty to me that Nintendo just didn't keep improving that design, and it honestly doesn't need much improvement. Just replace the C-stick with a second analog stick, make both analog sticks clickable, add a second Z button to complement the one shoulder button it already has, and voila. Instant classic. But, for some reason they will re-release the original controllers for every new Smash game, but they won't just produce a refined sequel to it. They even already have a name the could give it; the WaveBird 2.

In other news, more rumors rumbling about Warner Bros. Discovery wanting to sell Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (yes, again), with EA, Take-Two, Microsoft, Sony, Tencent, Netease, and PUBG Corp all listed as potential suitors. Now, Microsoft is in the middle of closing the Activision deal, EA are reportedly looking for buyers themselves, and Tencent and Netease are Chinese assholes who will almost certainly get scrutinized by both the U.S. and Chinese governments. Take-two is interested, but Sony's name has specifically been thrown out there as well, and already the Sony pony's are lining up to bet Papa Sony to buy it, which is literally what they do whenever any company is interested in selling, no matter is Sony is linked to them or not. Just check out the Twitter comments under that link. I've never seen a fanbase so hungry for their pet company to buy the world.

Yeah I can see why people might like the controller, as I did use it to play Smash a lot back in the day, and when you compare it to the atrocious Wii remote and Gamepad I can see why those controllers are a step backwards in most people's eyes. Just personally, I found the whole grip a bit weird to use when going back and forth between different controllers and outside of Smash and some other GameCube games, I would much rather use a regular style of controller that is just more comfortable and user friendly to hold, such as a Switch Pro controller or even an Xbox Elite controller, which is what I see as one of the pinnacle game controllers.

Plus I tend to emulate a lot of older games, so I prefer controllers that have better PC compatibility, and Microsoft controllers fit that bill the best.

Xbox Series X controllers are easily the best controllers on the market right now. Best D-pad I've ever used. Seriously, try one if you get the chance.

There've been a number of six-button controllers, they're popular among fans of fighting games

I've never heard that complaint before. 360's triggers were pretty good, and it was a popular controller
The 360 controllers were definitely great PC gamepads for their time. I'd still swear by them were they not mostly replaced with knockoff imitation stock and Xbone/XSX pads.

Hell, I'm tempted to give the XSX pad a shot to see for myself if it's actually a worthy successor to the 360 pad.

If I do get the chance to try one for a reasonable price, I'll give it a shot. I refuse to be the guy who hates things without giving them a fair shot.
The biggest issue I have with the Xbox 'Core' controllers is that Microsoft took a great controller design and introduced shitty firmware. The first year I had it there was constant disconnection issues, then a firmware update fixed it. But now windows is treating my controller as D-input device than a x-input device. It's all so tiresome.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I've never been a fan of PlayStation controllers. They were very small and cramped until the Dualshock 4, which was comfortable, but the battery life was terrible and you couldn't turn off the RGB light. Also, lol at the PS3 controllers having those triggers where your fingers would slip off, so all the FPSes on the console moved the fire buttons to R1.

But at least they stuck with unique button names, so you don't have to wrestle with the XYBA/YXAB problem, even if the buttons obnoxiously need emojis to be typed 🔺⭕❌🟥
The PS symbols were also colored so if you don't remember which one is which l you could say "press the magenta button!" Really helpful when playing with colorists or people in print.

I never had a problem with the Xbox controller on PC, It Just Works. With the exception of a Win10 update that wakes the screens up from sleep if an Xbox controller is plugged in, but that's a newish Windows feature that also affects things like flight controllers.

I mean that's great and all but they still have the same issue as a year ago: their whole work history (aside from Mortal Kombat and TT's Lego games) is tied up in WB IP and thus they are worth far more to WB than they are to any other company. I mean, good luck, but its going to be hard to find a suitable buyer unless WB changed their asset valuation AND with key game industry players unable to compete for it at this time. One thing to consider is that after a looong time of not releasing any games, there are no fewer than three big ones coming out in the next 9 months, which would make it a lot easier to divorce the studios from the IP (see chart below.)

Honestly, I would say that Tencent would probably be the best corporate parent here, they own a lot of game stuff but take a very hands off approach. Otherwise, from an employee perspective Sony is probably the best bet but EA or T2 would actually probably be okay hosts too if they could afford it. Embracer wouldn't want to spend the money which might be why they are not listed and no clue on Netease or PUBG Corp.

WB could also sell off or shut down individual studios, if they wanted to. Just to remind you all, they already sold their big mobile division, King, a year or two ago for over a billion dollars. From a buyer's perspective TT is a good candidate here since their IP series (Lego) isn't owned by WB and thus anyone can continue their current licensing deal. Netherrealm is another good choice, they make MK and the DC fighting games but one of those two sells a lot better than the other and its not DC. And Rocksteady would be the last one I would call out since its a prestige studio that is almost done with its current project, which is going to have given them online coop experience, and they could easily go it alone on a new IP based on their own brand recognition.

Dualshock: new convex "grippy" analogs might be better, but some people liked the original concave types. Shortened the handles so now you're fucked if you have manhands. Added a rumble feature (hence the name)

Dualshock 2: nearly identical to PSX dualshock. Pressure sensitive gimmick is used by a handful of games.
These are the only things I buy that are related to Sony. especially for PC Gaming. IMO it's the only comfy controller with the buttons located in convenient places with a dpad that's comfy for my thumb. I have a PS1/2 to PC adapter I bought in the mid 2000's that to this day still functions as intended. Not to mention it's incredibly simple to configure on jstest-gdk.

Only issues is that the older they are (as in used, not brand spanking new out of the box) the more susceptible to wear'n'tear they are to outright breaking. I went through 3 of them so far (last one the D-Pad stopped working) because I mainly use them to play FightCade 2. Then again I could be hitting the buttons too hard *shrug*

You are definitely not missing out on much. I bought one at launch for Demon's Souls remake but since then its just been gathering dust. Getting really sick of their cookie cutter 'movie' games and Horizon Forbidden West and the devs bitching about Elden Ring doing better was a fucking embarrassment.

Stuck to PC as usual and will probably just sell my PS5 since it's just a shitty dust collector and I have no interest in any of their first party games they put out. God of War Ragnarok looks like another 'DLC' disguised as a sequel much like Horizon was and I wasn't even a fan of the 2018 one that much, it strayed too far from what the classics were.

It's a shame since I originally bought my PS3 on launch on a whim when I was living in Japan at the time and since they fucked up their launch so hard for a while they were trying to be competitive but now they think they are top dog again and no surprise everything's gone to shit with them.
Returnal and Ratchet are pretty good, but you’re mostly right. Their output is better than Microsoft at least (how the fuck is Halo Infinite still the only first party game they’ve put out?), but things are needlessly sparce.

One thing you forget is that there are a large number of back burner IPs tied up here aside from WB stuff, such as Midway's entire back catalog, and Monolith Productions backlog, such as F.E.A.R. Its dependent on what the potential buyers want and what WBD is willing to part with. If its all on the table, I imagine there is a large interest.

There's a few other games they've put out. Not a fan of it but there's Forza Horizon 5, and I enjoyed the new Flight Sim.

See that’s the problem. You have PS3s. To summon a PS5, you need a shitload of PS4 Pros and copies of woke games like The Last of Us 2. That is only step one though. For the second step, you need to bang a trans person and declare all waifu games as crimes against women for their lewd, demeaning content. Finally, you need to make your stand against the evils of this world by claiming your support for LGBT, BLM, and abortion rights. After all that, the PS5 is yours, along with a free copy of the hit Sony film Morbius.
Or just fiddle around on Gamestop’s website because you were bored and got a gigantic tax refund. That’s what I did. My ps4, which I used as a media player as much as a console, was starting to act wonky anyway.

And yet, after a decade or more of owning huge slices of the industry, they haven't...

Even when they have their hand in vidya, they still seem to extend their reach

Epic Games acquiring Bandcamp is an example

Tencent isn't the cause of this, wanting to sell in China is. And for the last one, it's Sony forcing JP publishers to adhere to an L.A. post-MeToo standard.

Does tencent release un-chinafied versions of their "games" though. You can't make comparisons unless there's proof of the opposite for contrasting. We know the sony cuck mandate to censor panties, titties and just about anything that irks the hardcore roastie #mepoos because those games also come out on freaking switch uncensored.

The thing is, nonTencent companies want to sell in China too, which is why Homefront switched China out for North Korea as it's villains a decade ago and why CS:GO tried to paint over it's skull icons.
