I think @Miss Misery said it already, but this is just classic splitting/cluster B stuff. Black and white thinking, people are all good or all bad. He prob didn't just sob and beg in that call, he probably attempted emotional manipulation and/or tried to get whichever one he was boohooing at to try to leave the other one in favor of staying with Kevvie.
