I don't think any amount of J6 theater will save them in the midterms. The very best they seem to have to hope for is that it's enough to get trump off the ticket for 2024, which while that would suck, I don't think they understand that Trump is too old to really pit the future on anymore and we have better options now specifically thanks to Trump resetting the political field.

The problem is if you take Trump's name off the ballot and put DeSantis on it, you run the risk of losing the 3+ point bump Trump gives down ballot candidates just because he is on the ballot. I would rather DeSantis keep on being governor of Florida and keep Florida growing more and more red.

Agreed - I've said before that it's better for DeSantis to get a few terms under his belt than leap for the big seat this early. It's a consistent problem with the GOP that they try to push their state-level young up and coming "superstars" into the forefront of national elections just when they're getting noticed, rather than letting them build up their political capital and experience before going for national office.

Having them run for national office too early just means that the "superstars" burn out before they reach their full potential as they're torn asunder by the Acela corridor wolves.

I can see the logic in that but sometimes the call of the many does outweigh the call of the few.
Bear in mind the scenario I'm discussing is if the Dems kangaroo court forces him off the ticket. That action alone would keep that bump for his down ballot picks because people would vote for them out of sheer spite of the Dems fuckery.
I think DeSantis will sit out 2024 for the reason you gave given the choice. But if it comes down to giving the Dems another 4 years to continue destroying this country or telling Florida to find another DeSantis, sorry Florida but the Republic calls.

DeSantis does have time to raise his national profile among conservatives in the USA. Right now Trump is the kingmaker but if DeSantis keeps making decisive moves in his state and ends up in the headlines more and more as a result, I think he could have a chance.

I only disagree on one point; the country has to hurt more before he should answer that call. As of now, taking control just means that the Dems play the blame game again. Right now, it's just baby formula that's scarce, but that doesn't affect everyone. Now, a second Dust Bowl caused by the Green New Deal? Now everyone suffers and knows just how dangerous bad governance is.
