Uh, yeah, jazz standards and musical theater are kind of huge interests of mine. I'd actually be pretty open to consulting with you about song choices if you want to explore more of that genre for the Wogglebug. :)
I recorded this one on my own to try something more upbeat. I would be most interested in your feedback. Jazz and musical theater are huge interests of mine as well.

You know, lots of songs come in different keys. You might be able to find a compromise with voiceguy if you can find a backing track in another key for him. Since a lot of what you have Wogglebug singing are standards or popular songs, there should be several keys to pick from.
This is true, plus my audio software allows me to change keys as well. The song in question was one where the vocal range was so wide that in order for me to adjust it to reach the high notes it made the low notes into what I call "growlers". There aren't many songs like that, but occasionally I do run across one.
First off, no offense, but I'm not exactly going to take WBL's word on that. If you listen to The Knife's dramatic reading of the book, or even just read her summaries of the chapters, there's some pretty strong romantic subtext between the characters. It's quite likely to me that she wants to fuck him but is just unwilling to admit it to herself, which is why she's conveniently pairing him off with another character. Secondly, as Chris himself demonstrates, you don't have to want to fuck a fictional character in order to be obsessed with it. Seeing a fictional insect as a father figure or mentor isn't really any better than seeing him as your boyfriend. Finally and most significantly, her obsession with the Wogglebug is not the only feature that makes her a lolcow. What makes her a lolcow is her devotion to an ill-devised, poorly thought out franchise and her obsessive need to maintain complete control over it, as well as her overwrought hatred for any group whose members she has had quarrel with. Just look at her history with dracowaltzlizard, or the many temper tantrums she threw on the WGW forums.

For as sympathetic as you may find her, WogglebugLover remains "a bizarre person, that is on the Internet, and responds negatively to people in a funny way." That's why she's a lolcow.
There seem to be a number of people on this site who equate "love" with "fuck". Just because you love something doesn't mean you want to fuck it, nor does it necessarily mean you are obsessed with it. I love Robin Williams, I never felt the urge to fuck with him, nor was I so obsessed as to write to him or stalk him or daydream about him. (Phoebe Cates, on the other hand -- well, let's not go there :heart-full:) If Cynthia seems obsessed with Wogglebug, it's because the character she imagines him to be (in other words, her interpretation of him as opposed to the typical Oz fandom) has helped her to get through some pretty goddamn bad times in her life to which you are not privy (but I am and will not betray her trust in telling me about them). Yes, she is single-minded in her approach to how he is to be portrayed, but that single-mindedness is also affected by my portrayal of him. Yes, she had temperament issues in the past (before we met online), but she is working to ameliorate those. The problem is, there are some people here who don't seem to want that happen; and so you push the boundaries to see if you can get her to spew some more. I understand that a little, check out my dealings with Brad Watson. Then, after you push her over the edge, you pat yourself on the back and say "See? I knew she was crazy."
Hey, I understand the purpose of this site is to make fun of people who have eccentricities, and I can fully appreciate that many of you would consider WBL to be eccentric to an extreme. But this does not mean you are allowed to make open and vicious attacks on her. If you look up near the top of the page, rule number one is "Be civil". That rule tends to get overlooked too much. And before you bring it up, I am not being a "White Knight" here, I am merely calling into question the ferocity of some of the posters here. I understand that she has not always represented herself in the best light here, but there have been times when she has tried and when it goes on too long she gets attacked with some old argument that she thought was over. I'm not saying don't have fun (I'll be the first to admit when I first heard of this project I thought "A large talking bug? That's crazy!"), but if you feel you have to be cruel to have fun then perhaps you are in the wrong forum. That's all I'm saying.
I vote the Wogglebug remains celibate for the rest of his life.

For his own sake.
Actually, he will eventually meet a beetle princess in a fantasy dimension populated by humanoid insects (which may be how Professor Nowitall first came up with the idea of creating Wogglebug). They fall in love as he helps her save the kingdom and eventually marry.
The only way she can interact with this thing she loves is to throw thousands of dollars at voice actors and an animation program so that she can shrink herself down to a child and enter his imaginary world.
That's a bit of an oversimplification on your part, based on the incorrect idea of there being a sexuality in her works based on the word "love". Don't get me wrong, it's a perfectly logical misunderstanding. And I will admit to the fact that I found your interpretive reading to be amusing and entertaining, but that doesn't mean I feel your interpretation is correct (in fact, I don't -- but that's why it's a free country, right?). I would never tell anyone that a personal interpretation is wrong, but I will strongly disagree with it since I am closer to the project than anyone here. I guess what I am trying to say in this TL;DR is have your fun, but pay respect where it's due. Think how it would feel if a group of people you didn't even know viciously attacked you for something you hold dear to your heart. Speaking for myself, I have a thick skin and a good sense of humor and know how to laugh at myself -- most people aren't blessed that way.
"There's no need to be afraid of me my dear, I like children!"
I do like children. That doesn't make me a pedophile. I was a teacher for a while and you can't do that if you don't like children. I would like to see them grow up with a sense of dignity and self-esteem, learning the life lessons that are going to be explored in the Wogglebug franchise. I also like to make them laugh, which I hope my characterization will do as well. And I certainly don't want them to be afraid of me.

Finally, I know no one here disrespects me (at least I hope not but if you do then oh well). I know I've said this before but it bears repeating: I respect what Cynthia is trying to do with this franchise. Whether it succeeds or not remains to be seen, but I have to applaud the courage of her convictions for at least trying. I do know she and I will continue to be friends and even co-creators regardless of what happens.

Voiceguy, I was totally with you up until your response to @Ubiquitous. Those last two paragraphs are nearly identical to Cynthia's own writing style. I am not trying to argue here, merely suggesting that, since you are indeed closer to the project than anyone but Cynthia or -- at a stretch -- the illustrators, maybe step back and take a deep breath. Lots of people on here have quite openly said that, whether or not they found her eccentric, they still wanted to see her succeed. If someone has actually hoped -- not just predicted, because there are always some of those, but blatantly hoped -- that this labor of love would go down in flames, then I missed it and you might need to point me there.

I read Ubiquitous as suggesting simply that there are people who like children but are damaging to them, not that you specifically, or teachers, or random people who like kids, are someone to be afraid of, but that there are such people and thus the line of dialogue being quoted is a non sequitur. "There's no need to be afraid of me, my dear. I could never hurt anyone" (or whatever variation) is rather more to the point.

@NobleGreyHorse I understand what you're saying. It seemed to me that he was taking a line out of context to imply that Wogglebug is a pedophile, but I will grant you that it could be better phrased. My interpretation was that @Ubiquitous was making a pedophile implication about the character. If I misunderstood what he was trying to say then I do indeed apologize.

It was a joke about the Woggle being a pedo, not Cynthia.

I think it's sadder when people with delusions about their creations spend money, time and effort trying to making those creations a 'thing' (see also: "Daddy" Derek Savage of Cool Cat 'fame' - see here, additional tragic info here and here) than when they make stuff like webcomics (if even that) and expect their 'legions of fans' to make them famous (see: Chris-Chan), or otherwise assume their pie-in-the-sky dreams will come true even if they make no effort to make them come true.

Nah, you understood pretty clearly, but thinking I was calling you a pedo was jumping the gun a bit - Woggy appearing in front of an unsupervised little girl and trying to reassure her that he's not dangerous because he "likes children!" still has creepy connotations and isn't really valid reasoning when trying to justify yourself in front of someone who's concerned as to whether you're a threat or not.

Edit: I realized my paragraph was incomplete; now fixed.

It's really a criticism on Cynthia's writing, not your acting.

If and when WoggleBugLover releases her first movie, what's our policy on whether or not we tell people like IHateEverything and YourMovieSucks about it?

IHE only reviews movies in the imdb bottom 100, I think - at least that's the premise of his 'search for the worst' series that Cool Cat was a part of. YMS probably wouldn't bother covering it because it's not remarkable/interesting enough for his target demographic, it's not popular enough in an underground internet sort of way, and also Adam barely ever does full length bad movie reviews anymore. He mostly does brief snarky-but-legit reviews of recently released films.

Kiwi generally has a policy of non-interference anyway. There will always be stray weens alerting lolcows to threads or trying to get a well-known figure to review/comment on lolcow bullshit, but the official stance of the forum is that doing that shit is dumb and things should evolve on their own.

Looked back through the thread and I want to say that you're a good man, Voiceguy.

This sort of behavior seems to run kind of deep with at least some of us.

I think we've basically been changing the definition of trolling so that we never actually cross the line - we move toward it but move it as we do.

@Ubiquitous I need to make it clear that in my writing the scene in the film you are referring to that I never in any way meant to imply or suggest that Sylvie was concerned whether or not the Wogglebug was a threat to her. I really only meant (which I will explain in the novelization) that she was not really afraid of him but was just uneasy because he looked so much stranger than any other stranger she had seen in her world. It was just because of how young she was and that she was in an already unfamiliar place having gone through a portal, and the Wogglebug just looked strange and unfamiliar also. She was just shy and insecure, but after the Wogglebug introduces himself to her she feels encouragement to trust him because she actually had heard of wogglebugs before in her world. I won't spoil anything more for the movie.

And all of what @voiceguy said is completely correct in every detail, of course.

And for the record, I sent my screenplay into a couple of script critique services last week and both gave the script overall positive ratings. The criticism they both had in common, which was that Sylvie's character was lacking somewhat in development, I have thought of how to easily remedy and will be adding a few more pages and element to the plot (without actually changing anything about it) to the script that shouldn't add more than between 5 - 10 minutes to the film and will both add to showing Sylvie's personal growth and also her developing friendship with Mr. Wogglebug. I'll have it done in time when @voiceguy comes back from his vacation. I might send the script to another coverage service afterward. And I now feel all the more confident in my movie and to release it.

To be fair I opened it up because I was more or less new to the thread and was trying to figure out what was so interesting about wbl. Probably every single person who comes in is going to bring up old stuff.

It seemed to me that he was taking a line out of context to imply that Wogglebug is a pedophile,

If we can take anything out of context to make it funny we probably will.

Why couldn't the thread about the chick who wants to fuck the moon man get 100 pages? That chick was way cooler.

Did she come in and interact with us?

Hey! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It's nice to bump into a fellow fan on Kiwi. :)
What a fun recording! You brought a lot of positivity and animation to the performance, which are definitely characteristics that need to be emphasized in Wogglebug. Admittedly there are some intonation and tempo issues (you try to catch up with the song in a couple places and fall a little flat now and again), but you're still very good at carrying the character through it all. I doubt complete technical perfection is required anyway, so long as the character's main qualities come through. It might be harder to do, but I like uptempo Woggle. Just to re-iterate: I'm not saying ballad Woggle is bad. You're good at making the Woggle's character come out in ballads too, but he needs some more uptempo songs for balance, which is more on Cynthia's end. Thank you for asking for feedback!

Here's an update from me. Although I haven't been able to talk to @voiceguy since he came back from his vacation, I know he's at least come back and since his Skype has been always set to "away" I'm hoping that is at least a good sign that he is just very busy with getting the recordings of Wogglebug's dialogue for my movie done as he promised me. And I did send him the updated version of the script on the day he came back, that has 8 pages added to it with a new element that develops Sylvie more as a heroine.

I am now feeling more confident in my movie and to release it some time this year. And (while this does not count for all of you on here, it still may to some of you) I believe you should not pass all judgement on the film before I've even completed and released it. And especially as this might keep you from viewing the movie with an open mind (provided you will decide to view it at all of course). I do realize (depending on how many sales and, or, views there will be for it) that not all the reviews will be completely positive. Especially because while looking at the many reviews on Amazon for Barbie movies and other direct-to-DVD movies geared towards kids and general audiences that I and my friends happen to love all all of, have a number of negative reviews for all, but their positive reviews noticeably still win out overall in quantity.

A new idea I've had lately is to develop (after my movie is done) a web series about the Wogglebug teaching educational subjects in entertaining and various ways. And the first episode will deal with the differences of opinions. I plan to release this episode after my movie is done but before it is released.

Also things may well change for the better for me this year regarding finances. As just a few weeks ago it was almost officially confirmed that a new and better apartment has been located for me to move into this year that has rent that is far less expensive than even my current one had when I first moved in three years ago.

Don't. Just don't. Starting a webseries on top of everything else you're apparently planning to do is just insanity, and will drag everything else out that much more.

That's good news. I hope you decide to put a little bit of the money you save towards your teeth instead of investing it all in Woggle. You don't want to end up with an infection or sommat because you aren't taking care of yourself.

I'm not going to start it right away or do it continuously. And I just feel it will be necessary to at least put the first episode I mentioned of out just when I said because of the things that have been going on around here. And if the episode and movie go over well (which I expect they should) I will just do a new episode in between movies only. The episodes will be only 25 minutes or less as this the timeframe which is best known to hold young viewers attention.

That's good news. I hope you decide to put a little bit of the money you save towards your teeth instead of investing it all in Woggle. You don't want to end up with an infection or sommat because you aren't taking care of yourself.

I''ll try to. And I may need to see my dentist and doctor this year anyway. And if I can be able to move to the new apartment before my lease on this is up in June, I will at least try to.

Well good luck with that.

Thank you.
