I don't want the star trek future if its anything like what the current shows are like. For a series about utopia and humanity at their peak the writers made the most bleak and pessimistic vision of the future I have ever seen.
Everyone is gloomy and miserable, members of star fleet are incompetent and unprofessional, there is poverty, racism, slavery, and drug abuse on Earth, and the universe is always on the verge of destruction.
I'm pretty sure 40k has a brighter outlook on the future of humans becuase at least that series celebrates the grit and tenacity of man. Idk what nutrek celebrates about humans, becuase it sure ain't empathy, reason, and curiosity like the old show.

I hear ya. It just bothers me that the whole point was Earth had to go through Hell to reach the Paradise that was Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism, and they either miss that entirely, or just blatantly ignore it when trying to use Star Trek to make a (bad) point. Personally, I think ole Gene was a blithering idiot of an optimist, but sometimes I need a little bit of that optimism, and I like and respect his artistic vision, even though he wasn't probably the best person.

Every time there’s one of those viral videos of a teacher being racist or Twitter piles on some random person trying to get them fired, you see a lot of anti-union rhetoric out of the supposed left. One of the benefits of having a union is that you can’t be fired because the public is calling for your head, there has to be an investigation so they put people on paid leave. But these people who supposedly want to eat the rich and have automated luxury communism want anyone vaguely accused of anything thrown out on their ass and blacklisted from ever being employed again immediately.
It’s shit like this that’s why we’re never going to have better work conditions in North America, everyone is too busy ripping each other apart over micro-identities to realize we all have less vacation time and labour protections than a lot of third world countries. And the corporations love it, no wonder they spend so much time promoting pride and BLM.
