Honestly, Inquisitions pseudo-MMO structure is was killed the game for me and keeps me from finishing it to this day.
This may kill it for other people but that didn't bother me so much. What killed the game for me was the writing, and how disconnected my PC felt from the cast. A party-based RPG lives or dies based on its extended cast and I felt nothing for anyone in Inquisition. They're hollow. Empty shells where characters should be. Even DA2 made Hawke's band of freaks feel like friends. In DAI it was like being surrounded by a bunch of acquaintances, or coworkers, you like them in the sense that you're kind to them but you wouldn't hang out with them after work.

Can I just point out how much better a title "Absolution" is than "Dreadwolf"?
It's kind of a generic subtitle but Dreadwolf Rises is an awkward mouthful.

I fucking hate the elves so much
First game was pretty refreshing with them having a magical past but not really being special or very relevant to the world. Then they became a bunch of Final Fantasy OCs and now we learn that their twink femboy gods made the world and invented dreams.
Dragon Age was never good, go back and play DA:1 it's like playing an edgy teengers first Baulder Gate Mod
Compared to the sequels it's flawless, but on its own, yeah, it's not as good as nostalgia makes it look.

If Anthem and Andromeda prove anything it's that DA4 will probably have a core combat mechanic that is vaguely satisfying, but with everything else being various shades of shit. Bioware now is basically a 3rd person combat r&d division of EA that also happens to have a handful of hairy genderqueers writing fanfiction in the basement. I bet the latter department could churn out this stuff in their sleep, simply slapping a woke coat of paint on the existing lore. It's clear what's really holding it back is the desire to deliver top tier impressive world art and combat systems. There's genuine game design ego at work, as well as the idpol fuckery, and the combination must make everything impossible. Hence the huge delays. It's a clusterfuck if ever there was one. My disappointment personally is fairly matched to the potential dumpster fire popcorn, not least the sizeable femcel audience getting salty over the fact it won't be Inquisition 2: Taming the Dreadwolf Dick.

I can tolerate a bit of woke, like Inquisition level, but if they truly lean into as cartoony an art style as some of the promo stuff suggests that will really sink it. That new Netflix animated series looks generic as fuck too.

Within minutes of the title announcement, a bunch of people from this contingent and its cocksucking male(ish) counterpart noticed that the new game is abbreviated as DAD, and immediately commenced to make giggly sexual jokes about Solas as "Daddy Wolf."

I honestly don't think I have ever been more embarrassed to be a fan of something. It's enough to make one want to do a rage-uninstall.

The Netflix trailer just looks generic. But I guess that says more about Dragon Age than it does about the show. It's a shame because Origins was so good and nothing afterwards really ever lived up to it. Dragon Age looks and feels like cheap Forgotten Realms knock off, but gayer...before you know Forgotten Realms got super gay.

The shitty troon writing's the biggest problem but I've also heard that the Frostbite engine also really hampers dialogue and its presentation too since it was never made with RPG mechanics in mind, yet EA keeps forcing them to use it and they have to do a lot of janky engine hacks to even make it function.

I really loved Origins for a while. It wasn't as good when I revisited it, but honestly it's the absolutely autistic fanbase that turned me off from it even more over the years. There's so many tumblr girls and literally retarded trannies or gay dudes who can't and won't shut up about how gay the characters are and how cool and empowering it is to suck dicks and how much of "daddies" Dorian or Iron Bull are. It's somehow worse than the RE fanbase in that regard. On the other hand, some old guy made a bunch of really elaborate and really bad text-to-speech lesbian mods for Origins too that were popular for a time, so it's bad both ways.

A fanbase that celebrates DAII as a great game is a fanbase that will eagerly lap up any shit you serve them, so long as it panders to their weird sociosexual obsessions. I think that's the fanbase BioWare is pandering to now, and I think it may well bite them in the ass when they learn that Twitter feeds, YouTube autists, and Tumblr refugees aren't enough to make a game the success EA wants.

frostbite wasn't made with sportsball mechanics in mind either, yet the fifa team was still able to do it.

come to think of it, this is some gell-mann amnesia stuff. why do people expect a thoroughly pozzed company that hires the shittiest writers and designers on the planet to gonna have competent programmers and managers?
I'd give them credit for anthem since the gameplay was damn fun, but turns out it's best part (the flying) actually came from an EA exec, lmao.

bioware has been pandering to them for a looooooooooong time, all the way back to mass effect 3, if not 2. the amount of alien fuckers on the bioware forums (RIP that lolcow ground) was insane, which then translated over to dragon age. the first dragon age (like the first mass effect) didn't really have that degenerate attachment back then, but the internet of 2009 was a different place anyway.

dragon age was always pretty generic with the saturation turned down to make it more gritty. granted, it had some interesting bits to explore (the fade and the templar/mage conflict, plus origins didn't go current year with it's racism and classism), but bioware's incompetence and shitty writing moved the game into a completely different direction sadly. fun fact, there's an event in the game's lore that's called the blackening, which these days makes it fucking hilarious: https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Second_Sin

I wonder how much the game is going to punish you and scold you for being racist towards elves, if you're even given the chance. Or It could be a ME3 scenario where Solas succeeds no matter what and you get to decide what color funky magic permeates the world.

Fuck, I'm still bitter about Mass Effect 3.
You can be racist towards Elves, just not Dark Elves.

Origins is still the best. I'm still questioning the design choices from O to 2 in regards to the elves. They made them so uncanny valley, so...hideous.
Matter of personal preference I guess. I liked it, or more the idea behind it. Elves in the previous game were just humans with pointy ears (ignoring the game engine that that everyone look a bit uncanny), in DA2 the design change helped to make their appearance more distinct from humans.

Kind of weird to name the game Dread Wolf Rises when Bioware's thing since ME2 is to have the Bad Guy of the game get defeated in the game proper and have the Actually This Was The Real Bad Guy The Whole TIme plot point be introduced in post-game DLC and assume that you played it in the next game in the series. Does this mean that even the studio knows the game is shit and won't sell enough to have a DLC roadmap laid out?

One of my biggest personal gripes with the franchise is how it went from relatively grounded Tolkien-esque fantasy in the first game to completely soulless high-fantasy, spikes on shoulders, big dumb horns, fantasy by the second and third game. This came with a change in tone from gritty and grimdark to UwU daddy Solas~

The fact that the Netflix anime looks just like every other videogame tie-in show released in the last five years is a real testament to how boring the franchise has become aesthetically.

No prejudice allowed in Bioware's big gay fantasy. Remember this is the same franchise where "Sorry, I'm not gay." Isn't even a dialogue option you can choose in DA2 to keep Anders from sobbing on your cock.

I don't mind DA2's redesign for the races so much. I do like DA2's Qunari, at least, Inquisition is just awful though.

That would require a level of self-awareness I doubt they have, but maybe. Not that it's hard for them to just shit out some other Villain when DLC time rolls around. Solas is bad but are you ready to meet GIGA SOLAS?
