Most of the left has been too pavlovian'd into spewing bile as soon as they hear his name for Joe to be a viable candidate and tbh from what I'm hearing he's stepped on some toes in WV with his recent gun bill comments and shit.
Remember that his amicable nature toward the second amendment is the largest reason he was able to get and maintain influence in WV. The same way that "abortion rights" might be considered important enough to bring in enough single issue voters to sway an election in a blue area, gun rights are important enough to most West Virginians that they'd be willing to vote him out for new Republican blood if it came down to it.
The people I've spoken to up there are mostly hoping he's just trying to play politics but I've heard more than one "well I told you he'd fuck it up"
