Well, Null mentioned on his stream that Near felt a need to destroy the persona, thread included, because there was a chance he and Hector ran afoul of Japanese developers and could have faced criminal charges for their emulator work because of Japanese views on copyright. So there’s some motivation.

Also, I believe someone had mentioned that Near was trying to get out of financial obligations, but I think that some of those was spousal support, which wouldn’t make sense if Hector was in on the scheme, which looks to be the case here.

So, I’m inclined to believe the “destroy the persona” approach, especially since Byuu went so far to ask Null to remove the thread before suicide entered the fray.

Well, there was talk of a new coder that works like Byuu that stays careful to not mention personal aspects, but I could be misremembering.

Also, it was said that Hector could be compelled to reveal where Near is if he was dragged to court. And then there was the VTuber thing but that was said to be something either Hector did or was something Near was as part of a group.

So the cheap analysis suggests that Near is probably back in the emulator scene, and steps are being taken to hide any involvement he may have in any projects.

Also, I’m willing to bet that the State Department’s report will be countered by “Byuu relinquished his US Citizenship”, but there’s still going to be some kind of announcement or filing, especially in regards to a foreigner.

Finally, since I never paid attention to it really, anyone know how much an urn really goes for? Or if there’s laws on how to store a person’s ashes? That was the last real evidence of death presented IIRC.
