There's a lot of discussion here about early promiscuity, but remember that for every one person out at the clubs hooking up there's 20 at home alone. Not everyone has the crazy college life of nonstop parties. And even those that do, it is often a phase that may only last a year or so, not their whole college experience. Most people tend to burn out pretty quickly on that.

Take me for example, I think I'm pretty typical in this regard. I had about 1-2 years of partying and promiscuity during my college years. However, I only ended up actually having sex with five women, because most of the time I was in a committed relationship. Also there were a couple of times of not quite going all the way with a girl for various reasons, sometimes it just ends up not happening. I ended up getting serious with a girl and the partying slowed down, and I would eventually marry her and haven't been with anyone else since.

Over 2/3 of first time marriages actually work out permanently, so take that into consideration. The only reason the divorce rate is around 50% is repeat offenders (like my mom) who keep getting divorced and remarried. But first time couples have a high success rate.

If even 1% of the population are massive whores sleeping around with a different person every week, that would still be about 3-4 million people. They would be highly visible, and skewing the perception of the masses.

I'm at the top of the scale (200+), but that's a lifetime achievement award now at 67. Haven't added a new one to the list in many years, 24 years into marriage #2. But yeah, between marriage #1 and marriage #2, I was a total male whore. Sleeping with 4 different women in the same weekend wasn't uncommon. The pleasures of the female flesh was an addiction and you are correct that single women drop a lot of the nonsense about sex as they get older. Wasn't uncommon to get a call saying "Whatcha doin'? Wanna come over for some drinks and then I can ride you like a circus pony?" Kinda miss those days that have transcended into a boring state of monogamy, but age comes for us all and the crazy libido I used to have diminished greatly.

But looking back at the numbers and how they accumulated, it was about 10+ by the time I joined the Navy at 20 years old. Tripled that in the Navy. Then got married and the list went inactive until marriage #1 was over. Then it was like winning the sex lottery until I succumbed to marriage #2 several years later.

We’re talking about a gender that considers 80% of men below average. If you can meet the wildly overinflated expectations of women, then sure, you’re just fine. But there are guys who’d have no problem in 1990 that would struggle in 2020. It’s all tied into the growth of dating sites and apps where women get dozens of messages daily.
