Law Supreme Court says Second Amendment guarantees right to carry guns in public - The ruling expands upon a 2008 decision that said the Second Amendment safeguards a person’s right to possess firearms at home for self-protection.

The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a New York law that placed strict restrictions on carrying concealed firearms in public for self defense, finding its requirement that applicants seeking a license to carry a concealed handgun demonstrate a "proper cause" to do so in public is unconstitutional.

In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court reversed a lower court decision upholding New York's 108-year-old law limiting who can obtain a license to carry a concealed handgun in public. Proponents of the measure warned that a ruling from the high court invalidating it could threaten gun restrictions in several states and lead to more firearms on city streets.

Justice Clarence Thomas delivered the majority opinion for the ideologically-divided court, writing that New York's "proper-cause requirement" prevented law-abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment right.

The funny thing is that everyone is always up in arms about abortion, but nobody ever points out how people get pregnant in the first place.

Oh that's right, it just happens by magic. These people really are stupid enough to believe in the stork theory of reproduction.

On the other hand, LOL

Her eyes are telling me she wants to find a man and go full Amber Heard. Definitely the type of crazy that wise men will never stick their dick in.

Oh nooooo pedophiles will feel unsafe. Whatever shall we do?
They'll probably legalize raping the children of conservatives in retaliation, or pass a law forcing their parents to take their kids to swinger's clubs or something.
Yes, because lawful gun owners make a habit of brandishing weapons in non-threatening situations. These people are idiots.
"They're lawful until they aren't. I feel so unsafe!"

Well maybe you should let kids be kids and stop trying to push drugs and sex on them before they hit puberty, huh? I'm so glad I wasn't born much later than I was.

the permit requirement is still considered valid and we're just going to start playing wack a mole with valid reasons to reject applications?
they can't reject it anymore if you're law abiding and meet the requirements the state imposes.
lets say a state wants 50 hours of gun training before you get the permit, they can still deny you for whatever reason they want under may issue
under shall issue, they can't deny you if meet the per-requisites. you're aproved

Reading through the actual opinion, holy fuck Thomas is pissed at the Appeals Circuits playing games after Heller and McDonald with their intermediate scrutiny 'balancing' games which always coincidentally favor the government restricting rights.

His anger and based levels knows no bounds!

Did anyone notice this part? Uncle Clarence is gonna break the backboard from all this dunking.

No, instead all states are, at bare minimum, "shall-issue" states, which means the government can't deny you a permit if you meet all the qualifications.

This ruling strikes down "may-issue" laws, in which states can deny you a permit for subjective or arbitrary reasons even if you otherwise qualify.

I can't think of a more nuclear dunk than the court's only black justice (only the second in history) using Dred Scott, the most reviled opinion in SCOTUS history, to undo policies beloved by the party of the current president who just so happens to be the man who personally tried to stop his confirmation to the court. In awe of the level of legal vengeance Thomas is enacting here.

Dear Clarence, please stick around long enough to give us Constitutional Carry. Thank you.

Also, a big FY to the bitching governor, Kathy Hochul and to a latter extent, the big land whale of Chicago Lori Lightfoot.
Way too late for Lightfoot, the only facts on the ground MacDonald changed were allowing gun ownership in Chicago and a few of its suburbs, and shall issue in the whole state, this dozen years overdue decision is needed precisely because of that. Chicago has been limited pathetic nibbles like trying to suppress gun stores and ranges inside the city.

Cuomo's replacement is going to be beside herself after just signing yet another restrictive gun law for the state.
