Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong tells fans he's 'renouncing' his U.S. citizenship over Supreme Court ruling

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told London concert-goers that he is "renouncing" his United States citizenship in protest over the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Performing at London Stadium just hours after the majority-conservative court ruled that abortion rights are no longer protected, the 50-year-old rock star lashed out at the decision on Friday night.

"F*** America," Armstrong said on stage for the Hella Mega tour his band is headlining alongside Weezer, Fall Out Boy and others. "I'm f***ing renouncing my citizenship. I'm f***ing coming here."

As the crowd cheered in response, the California native carried on his diatribe.

"There's just too much f***ing stupid in the world to go back to that miserable f***ing excuse for a country," continued Armstrong, who at one point during the show had a Union Jack flag draped over himself. "Oh, I'm not kidding. You're going to get a lot of me in the coming days."

The Daily Mail reports that Armstrong also yelled "f*** the Supreme Court of America" before playing the 2004 hit "American Idiot," Green Day's response to the Iraq War and the media frenzy surrounding it.

Armstrong — who joins musicians like Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers, Megan Thee Stallion and more in condemning the Supreme Court ruling on stage — has previously described himself as politically independent. The singer hasn't shied away from calling out politicians, including former presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump. Most recently, Green Day has performed in front of a banner reading "F*** Ted Cruz," in reference to the Republican senator following the recent mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Dookie was a good album if you were alive and conscious in the 90's. They had a few good songs here and there; but between them and Offspring, Offspring had a better average of good songs per album. Also, I don't listen to your music to hear your political takes; play your sound machine and sing the songs you fucking monkey.

Edit: And just a thought... do $CURRENT_YEAR$ people know that a line in their song Holiday is literally, "Kill all the fags who don't agree"? Just... what kind of person uses that kind of demeaning language?

People trying to renounce their US citizenship who have a net worldwide worth over $2 million potentially take it up the pooper in taxes on the way out the door. Dunno what Armstrong's financial situation is, but assuming he is serious and has a few shekels to rub together he better buy a big ol' tube of lube. He may need it.

I'm honestly not familiar with the nuts and bolts of how you do the 8854, but it sounds similar to an Estate Tax return. As in, a tax on wealth, not income.

Pretty sure this is a provision Democrats put in.

Old punks are the worst, at one point you should have some dignity and stop singing "fuck you dad" songs to angry teenagers while you are in your 50s. I hate celebrity worship, why does this faggot think that some singer/guitarist leaving a country (he won't) would leave an impact?

He won't leave, I forgot about the exit taxes.

He has it cushy here, good weather, all that shit. He won't like it the first time he says something mean about someone and gets tossed in jail, either.

Why don't these dummies get mobilized and change the RvW ruling instead of blocking freeways and yelling fuck America? Or twerking for abortion like in Houston? Or taking a knee for RvW?

It's a very left-wing-American thing to declare that you're going to renounce your citizenship and emigrate without looking into what that would actually involve. Do these celebrities and Redditors think that it's like moving states and they just need to file a Change of Address Form with the USPS?

Not every country lets foreigners just walk in and make themselves at home the way the good ol' USA does.

To quote the man himself, "There's nothing worse than an aging hipster".
