Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong tells fans he's 'renouncing' his U.S. citizenship over Supreme Court ruling

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told London concert-goers that he is "renouncing" his United States citizenship in protest over the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Performing at London Stadium just hours after the majority-conservative court ruled that abortion rights are no longer protected, the 50-year-old rock star lashed out at the decision on Friday night.

"F*** America," Armstrong said on stage for the Hella Mega tour his band is headlining alongside Weezer, Fall Out Boy and others. "I'm f***ing renouncing my citizenship. I'm f***ing coming here."

As the crowd cheered in response, the California native carried on his diatribe.

"There's just too much f***ing stupid in the world to go back to that miserable f***ing excuse for a country," continued Armstrong, who at one point during the show had a Union Jack flag draped over himself. "Oh, I'm not kidding. You're going to get a lot of me in the coming days."

The Daily Mail reports that Armstrong also yelled "f*** the Supreme Court of America" before playing the 2004 hit "American Idiot," Green Day's response to the Iraq War and the media frenzy surrounding it.

Armstrong — who joins musicians like Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers, Megan Thee Stallion and more in condemning the Supreme Court ruling on stage — has previously described himself as politically independent. The singer hasn't shied away from calling out politicians, including former presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump. Most recently, Green Day has performed in front of a banner reading "F*** Ted Cruz," in reference to the Republican senator following the recent mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

This is the dawning of the rest of his life.
ON HOLIDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

fr though, I liked pre-American Idiot Green Day, when they made listenable music and didn't piss and whine about Republicans. tl;dr Bush did 9/11 shitty Green Day

Now I hate the British as much as the next guy, but even I think giving them Billie Joe might be over the line.
It's payback for subjecting us to Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, and the current cast of Kids In The Hall, all of whom answer to the British crown at the end of the day.

Dookie was a good album if you were alive and conscious in the 90's. They had a few good songs here and there; but between them and Offspring, Offspring had a better average of good songs per album. Also, I don't listen to your music to hear your political takes; play your sound machine and sing the songs you fucking monkey.

Edit: And just a thought... do $CURRENT_YEAR$ people know that a line in their song Holiday is literally, "Kill all the fags who don't agree"? Just... what kind of person uses that kind of demeaning language?
Oh shut the fuck, there's no doubt the first three green day albums were better than whatever the fucking offspring shit out at any point in their career.

They were never great but at least they were fun to listen to

American Idiot is THE song I point to when explaining how "entertainers" completely forgot to do their jobs because "Bush looks like a chimp and is Hitler." That song, and the Daily Show.

Fun fact: American Idiot the album was literally put together at the last possible minute after their originally planned album masters got lost when they moved recording studios. And the album was explicitly made to make money off the anti-Bush sentiment because the band was on the verge of being dropped by their label and their lost album was a shamelessly trend chasing emo album that probably would have finished their career off it had not gone missing and forced them to start over from scratch.

Julian Assange is a leftist hero and he wasn't exactly welcomed in the UK. He's a rich fucker so he stands more of a chance but I don't think the UK is going to accept political refugees from America. Maybe they'll send him to Rwanda.

Who? Oh it's that guy who made that song like 20 years ago?

We should automatically strip citizenship if you come out publicly saying shit like this. Both the left and the right do this retard shit where they make empty threats on leaving America when something they don't like happens.
I would say that he publicly renounced his citizenship, so it should count, but it's also part of a performance, so... it's arguably just bullshit.

I don't know, I like when faggots like Billie get all worked up about "conservative" politics and throw tantrums.
It's empowering to watch these cumbrains go to water over shit. The impotent rage is wonderful.

You can jiggle them around and make them dance like niggers on the end of a rope, just by saying something mildly controversial. They can be cunt puppeted way too easy. I think they should make more music crying about things, so we can laugh at them.

I'm known as the "2000s nostalgia guy" but there's an artificiality to 2000s culture (and prior too tbf) that is very cringe and dated when looking back on today.

You've got to love the way corpo America plays it, start a war, then profit off the anti-war sentiment of the war you started in the first place, install a puppet and then use the backlash against your puppet to install your next puppet.

Bush DID suck but not for the reasons the Daily Show types think he did, he was 100% in the pocket of globalist corporations, all the brush clearing, shit kicking "President I could have a beer with" shit was just a persona and a laughably obvious and phony one looking back on today, the same exact forces in the world that brought you the Iraq war today bring you drag queen story time hour.

Bush was just the Heel wrestler we were supposed to boo and hiss at before the Face wrestler, Obama, came in and bashed a folding chair over his head and we cheer, metaphorically speaking.

I was never into the whole emo thing, I remember most people relentlessly roasting emos and bands like Green Day online, I was never a hardcore Bush basher, all that shit really is a precursor to Clown World bullshit you see today.

When I wax nostalgic for the 2000s it's not for shit like emo and Green Day (I admit it has more charm than it used to for simply reminding you of the era though as does anything evocative of the past even if it's dumb)

It is funny how to some degree the more things change, the more they stay the same, the battle lines used to be across emos versus /b/ types, now it's Woke vs Based.
