I am sick of that talking point of their's. They are truly convinced that somehow, the vast majority of the US is like this but Republicans maintain power. They really close themselves off from the reality of the rest of the country.
While I'm an outsider, I'm inclined to believe that, while the US as a whole is fairly socially conservative, the majority, or a significant plurality of the US population is more left than most people realise, at least when it comes to economics and to things that impact them personally. A lot of people would recognise that an improved work/life balance is a good thing, for instance, and would tend to support some form of regulatory framework to improve that situation.

The problem is, your political discourse has redefined "left" into a form that is nearly unrecognisable (and that redefinition has spread all over the world thanks to US cultural hegemony, but that's another rant). As the American "left" see it, to be left wing (and to be socialist) is to be on the same side as an enormous, bureaucratic, quasi-fascist state that has merged itself with transnational corporate power, so long as that merged state-and-corporation maintain the supply of instantly gratifying hedonism. As long as they gloss their consumerist lifestyles with "socialism", as long as their overwhelming sense of entitlement isn't threatened, the "left" will oppose and support anything the hierarchy tells them. Therefore, to be left wing is to unquestioningly support the latest social fads and fashions, to promote irrational beliefs about the mutability of the body and "soul" as reality, and to unrelentingly attack everyone who disagrees as "nazi", or "evil", or "ignorant".

Which is how you end up with this godless, hippie faggot being dismissed as alt-right fundamentalist. Kind of stings. But also how you end up with people, who might otherwise support some "left wing" causes or issues, turning against everything that gets the label "left wing", because they don't want to be associated with the sort of arseholes who decry as nazis everyone that isn't 100% on board with their tranny-worshipping, economy-destroying, corporate-behemoth-entangled superstate.

This isn't going to turn into some "true communism hasn't been tried" rant, by the by. I'm not a communist or a socialist, and I will never stop resenting the way that communism, socialism, and "the left" have been turned into synonyms, when the latter is a much broader term that encompasses any movement to end the enforcement of social and economic hierarchies. Today's "left" is the opposite of that, slavishly worshipping at the feet of a multi-billionaire elite class, while striving to enforce strict social and economic hierarchies on society.

Several problems with that.

Actual support for abortion has always been tepid, the vaunted "Over half of American's support abortion! has always been shenagins because the vast majority suppport "Some abortion, within constraints, with reasonable restrictions". A big part of why this happened now was because Democrats pushing for late term abortions made that majority bleed away from them.

So all their signed laws and fundraising is doing is preaching tot he choir who already were going to vote for them. It will do nothing to gain new voters.
Some journalist or political analyst was on twitter talking about how he checked in with of a bunch of politicians this weekend, to see how many actual constituents had reached out. Out of a good number of politicians, they had 18 calls about Abortion since Friday.

Not 18 each. 18. 3 of them didn't even hear from a single person about it.

It's a dead issue. It won't save the left. Not when Gas is approaching 6 a gallon with no observable end in sight.

The batshit insane, purple nazi-haircut wearing, unfuckable 400 pound dykes bragging about their 15 abortions and announcing to the world that they have a hole and you can't stick anything in it until you give them what they want... are just as much as a minority without popular support in real life as they are on twitter. And apparently the SCOTUS called their bluff on Friday.

Interesting move. As far as I know, China's initiative is largely aimed at upgrading/creating transport infrastructure (ports, roads, railways...) for the ease of ferrying goods to and from China with an occasional school or hospital thrown in to sweeten the deal. This program of Biden's aims to set up high-tech manufacturing and introduce gender studies in third-world countries.

It will be interesting to see how exactly this plan is going to be implemented and whether it succeeds at weaning said third world countries from Russian food and Chinese construction projects (as the Chinese like to hire unskilled local labor but supply their own managers and supervisors).

It's not a talking point. They literally believe this. Back at the start of GamerGate I was DEEP in the lefty bubble, blogging for DailyKOS, then moving to another lefty blog because DailyKOS had become too conservative for me. (Now I recognize it as being a Uniparty vs Progressive thing but whatever.)

They literally believe that the entire country agrees with them except for a vanishingly small number of nebulous superracists in some mythical "flyover country" out in the fog, and that the only reason the Republicans EVER win an election is they cheat. This was presented as fact, as evidence as to why the left should start cheating, to "make it fair."

I don't like how the study seems to take "there are more leftists than conservatives" for granted, but the Hidden Tribes study points out that 8% of America are the batshit insane progressive activists. The woke. 11% are liberal. 15% are "passive liberal," the liberals the woke would call alt-right and have them up against the wall if they could.

26% just don't give a shit anymore. 15% are moderates. 19% are conservatives. 6% are what they call "devoted conservatives" but they specifically claim they're the right version of progressive activists.

8% of the US has, thanks to organizing and browbeating the rest of the left into letting them take the wheel and threatening to call them bad names, gotten us child drag queens, anti-science grooming in schools about literal fantasies about non-binary sex characteristics, and Title 9 being repurposed to protect troons instead of women. Amongst every other batshit insane leftist policy. Imagine if the GOP was allowing /pol/ to set their entire political platform. It's insane.

8% is also the percent of Twitter that make up like 90% of the posts, btw. Probably a coincidence, that, but...

Was thinking... Remember the 2000's movie cliche about the villianous right wing orchestrating terrorist attacks to scapegoat the peaceful middle east while they gain support from the average joe's sense of patriotism to attain more power?

What would be the left wing equivalent of that? And why will we never see it portrayed in any media ever?

More than 1 million people have switched their voter registration from Democrat to Republican in the last 12 months

The numbers don't lie and they spell disaster for Somoe Joe at Sacrifice (of our sacred democracy)
Latinos have made a 50% switch in support for Biden.

From +26 to -24. At this rate the left is going to start demanding they build that wall.

Can the left survive elections without their pet minorities giving them lockstep support? I know the blacks will continue to trade votes for gibs forever (barring the Republicans wising up and destroying that system -- what are the blacks going to do, vote for Democrats HARDER in retaliation?) but the other minorities turning on the left might be enough to screw them over.

I think the left wing version of that is January 6th. Hell - they hired a TV producer to direct the hearings

That could also be Dems registering as Republicans in open-primary states to get the opposing candidate they want...

I wonder if there's some level of agreement in the SCOTUS that the current balance of power and existing checks is not stable
A lot of government stability has been historically based around a gentleman's agreement between the branches and their members. As long as everyone understood where they were and played nice, nobody actually had to play hardball - and absent a few friction points here and there it worked very well.

What we're seeing now is the Court recognizing that the 'soft' parallel system built from brandy and handshakes at the country club or mutual schooling at the Ivies has completely collapsed due to an aggressive statist ideology (Radical Post-Modern Marxism). More startlingly than seeing that in the Executive or Legislative branches, where there was always a bit of struggle, is that SCOTUS is seeing it in the lower courts.

Reading the most recent Bruen opinion was slightly shocking if you're familiar with the way the SCOTUS writes, the language used was extremely and uncharacteristically strong. Thomas and Alito especially seem furious with the Appeal Circuits, and I think they've realized that the other branches have poisoned the courts and disrespected them personally as Justices and the Constitution/rule of law.

From the SCOTUS perspective, the old way is over, and the Radicals killed it. The sleeping giant has awoke, to make a WW2 reference, and it seems that the Justices are ready to exercise their power fully and discard the old wishy-washy half measures of Roberts and previous Courts. They'll do it gladly, as from their view they were dragged into a conflict that was escalated by the other side.

A hostile SCOTUS means a SCOTUS who will almost always rule against the current Admin basically out of pure spite. This means anything the admin wants is DOA. The only option then is to try to pack the court which is resisted and hated by both the people and the majority of congress.

For us non Americans, would be interested in hearing more on this. Intent? Where will this go? Potential implications?

Aside from just ruling against Biden et al at every chance, the Court has several options that would have more fundamental and far reaching consequences. First, you have to understand that Roe was not unique, or an outlier. There are many decisions in the last 50 or 60 years of jurisprudence that are simultaneously weak and foundational to the modern administrative state and Radical organizations.

For example, Chevron (1984), allows Congress to 'defer authority' to an executive agency with the force of law. This is how unelected Deep State bureaucrats in the FDA, EPA, or ATF decide on a whim that possession of a shoelace is a felony or your local factory has to spend 10 million for raccoon filters or go out of business. Ever since it was decided it's been on shaky ground, but nobody wanted to rock the boat - but now that the gloves are off, the current SCOTUS might not give a flying fuck. Overturning Chevron would, in a stroke, cripple the current administrative state because, just like with Roe, everyone in the Executive and Legislative assumed they'd just get away with it forever.

Here's another example, NY Times vs Sullivan, which held pretty high standards for defamation lawsuits, basically giving media carte blanche to lie and smear whoever they choose. Thomas in particular would like to overturn that, and likely at the same stroke remove the improperly granted shield of 230 from social media. Can you imagine a post-Sullivan world where newspapers could be sued for constant hate propaganda? It would cripple the social-media complex that makes up a majority of the Radicals soft power.

Those are just two big actions the court could take that would hit the administration immediately and forcefully, but it's only the tip of the iceberg. How would you like affirmative action declared unconstitutional? They could make it a twofer and nix all diversity initiatives while they're at it too! You want to force hard borders by declaring anything except imprisonment or return for border jumpers? Easy. They could even find that illegal anchor babies aren't 'subject to the jurisdictions under the 14th and therefore not citizens. (The irony of Thomas authoring a Blood and Soil opinion would kill me.)

There is no bottom to the ways that SCOTUS could throw massive wrenches into every activity of the other branches at fundamental, far reaching levels. They just never had the motivation to do so - until now.
