Lolcow farms’ board /snow/ has an unhealthy and bizarre fixation on Charls/Effina and might have more archived stuff about this, but he’s been losing grip for a while, Effina casually talks about their difficulties, or has in the past in her instagram comments, it is completely separate to his departure from MDE which allegedly is because Sam ratted him out to the IRS for hiding income, this is the widely repeated rumor, I would like to see more concrete evidence for the fallout however.

What's their fixation on Charls about? That he acts insane on stream? Sam is the most interesting character by far in terms of lolcow potential, I never thought any of the other MDE crew would've been noteworthy.

They’re a mainly female farm site so I think they’re miffed at her disingenuous editing of her photos and obvious white fetish, which I’m pretty sure Julian and Joey mock with their Yassification selfies if it isn’t some gay hazing Sam has them doing, also apparently she was barely legal when she moved in with Charls. It consumes their Sam general thread, just constant bitching about Effina, that’s also where the archives of Sams extensive gay shit/pedophilia DMs are housed.

Right after world peace was cancelled Sam and Charls were still on good terms and if I remember correctly Charls even showed up on very early episodes of hydewars. Then suddenly they stopped working together completely and never mentioned each other for years, people still aren't sure what happened. Charls started streaming on twitch and put out a few videos he made with some of the other world peace guys like Andrew Ruse (very underrated imo), who was also responsible for some of the great editing in early MDE content and world peace. Andrew hasn't worked with Sam or Nick post WP either as far as I know.

Charls and Andrew were responsible for some of the more surreal/artsy/sharp content on early MDE and Sam hasn't been able to replicate their stuff ever since.

Here's some work Charls and Andrew did after they broke off contact with Sam:


It's very surreal and skillfully edited, very nightmarish and dreamlike. Meanwhile Sam mostly publishes podcasts where he talks about cars or teams up with a few second rate crackhead youtubers with way worse editing skills. Without Charls and Andrew MDE can't exist, only the Sam hyde show.

TLDR: Charls and to an extent Andrew Ruse were very important parts of the MDE team and without them the writing and editing isn't as good. People want to know why they quit MDE because it's just not the same without them.


That's probably not why they're obsessed but it's why your average MDE fan talks about it 5 years later

Seriously, check out some recent pictures he looks legitimately cracked out and hasn't posted anything remotely coherent in years. He used to at least look normal and only engage in moderate schizoposting when he was working on bombstrap right after WP was canceled, but he's gotten intense since then and hasn't made any actual content in about 2-3 years. Could just be commitment to his brand of advanced schizoposting.


Also I was checking out a few world peace sketches the other day and found that charls recently left a comment, this is the first time I've seen him talk about anything MDE related in years.

Maybe there's truth to him going a bit crazy, but that doesn't explain everything that has happened. Why is it that Andy Ruse, Eric Hayden and others seem to have broken off contact with Sam as well? If Chuck has truly gone nuts, why are they still collaborating with him? Maybe the latter is not the case anymore and I'm just out of the loop, but there definitely seemed to be beef with Sam coming from more than just Charls. Regardless, it's very surreal to see him even acknowledge MDE after years of memory hole-ing and denying the fact that's where the overwhelming majority of his fans came from.

I've heard the IRS rumor too and it smells like bullshit to me. I think Sam and Charls have a similar amount of hate for the government and they likely put snitches close to pedophiles on the list of people who deserve infinite suffering. What would Sam even gain from it?

I am a big fan and that is it exactly. It's like finding a recipe that you like so much, you make it every week for years and then suddenly they stop producing one of the ingredients. It was all of the ingredients together that gave it the distinct flavor profile that made you like it so much. If you take any individual ingredient out, it becomes just okay. A lot of depth and nuance is lost.
It's not just Charls and Andy either. I believe Joel (trappped), James Price and some of the other off-screen talent left long ago as well and it shows. It always annoyed me when people would refer to MDE content as Sam Hyde's content because it was always way bigger than Sam. Now everyone can see why MDE was so great as a group. Sam, Nick, Charls et al. are fine as individuals, but MDE as a group made some truly amazing art.

Wrong, from 2019

Andrew Ruse has moved on to working on indie movies I think. Times change, unfortunately. MDE was perfect for guys in their late 20s making videos but most of them are now are in their mid 30s. I would guess there is stress in still being an “artist” at that age and most people would just move on. Sam is rich from his family + has enough name recognition to keep on doing it and live comfortably

Apparently Stavros Halkias has left Cumtown to pursue more solo work as a stand up comic. People are reading into it and speculating that there's more going on, that the break wasn't as amicable as it looks, etc. Feels a little familiar. Hopefully it's all just rumors. I never got into Cumtown that much, but those guys have some good bits and it would be a shame to lose another comedy group to in-fighting.

Nick Mullen is a strange man, he’s barely funny and his interviews about his personal life give me the creeps, like his whole shtick about making himself seem poorer than he obviously is, is off putting to me.

By his own admission he was a barely functioning alcoholic for most of his adult life, may have been molested, was poor, experienced a psychotic break due to coke (I think) and was relatively unsuccessful in comedy prior to cumtown.

Hate to be an arm-chair psychologist, but, given how resentful he has seemed about the podcast in the past, and his mental health issues, he might legit be experiencing impostor syndrome and feel he doesn't deserve any of the cash he's gotten over the past few years.

Then again, his mom joined a cult so maybe lunacy is just in his genes.
