JFC why would you ever admit something like this so publicly?!?!View attachment 3439581 woman moment
If you look at data the wrong way you can invent whatever answer you want? That's literally all you are doing. It's difficult explaining to people that statistics are raw data and need to be interpreted. IE the average human has less than 2 arms or less than 1 head.
Good way to describe how everything needs context.
This story makes me realize that I wish we had a "chad" reaction sticker.

"We used imprecise language and bad math to say people have one ball"
Not because he's black, mind you, but because he would find a way to drone strike the ever-loving shit out of youStatistically speaking, if I were in a room with President Obama, there is a higher chance he would murder me, than I would him.
That's not what "average" means, it means the sum of the values of a set divided by the number of members of the set. The word you're looking for is "normal."The average person has 2 arms, because we know that the average person isn't defined as a person born with defects or a victim of an accident, etc...
I don't get it. A perfect day for a man is torturing Gilbert Gottfried mediaeval style in a cold cell on a sinister night?
The average person has 2 arms. The average number of arms people have is less than 2. There are more two-armed people than amputees contributing to the statistic, making the "average person" the one with both arms. That's not what "average" means, it means the sum of the values of a set divided by the number of members of the set. Isn't that the Modal value, not the Average? The average person has 2 arms. The average number of arms people have is less than 2. There are more two-armed people than amputees contributing to the statistic, making the "average person" the one with both arms.
Solid point. Let's say the mode person has both arms and the average person is missing a fingertip or two, even though that doesn't accurately reflect reality.Isn't that the Modal value, not the Average?
This is kind of exactly the point with how you filter the data. But my statement was meant to exclude outliers from the data, which when it comes to human make average = normal when you exclude abnormal data (for lack of a better word). That's not what "average" means, it means the sum of the values of a set divided by the number of members of the set. The word you're looking for is "normal."
Also got to look at what it means to have less than an arm, is an arm cut off at the elbow .5 of an arm or do we add extra weighting to the hand because when most of us think of arms, the function of the hand is included. Maybe losing a hand is .9 of the arm. But then losing a finger that isn't the thumb could probably count for nothing.Solid point. Let's say the mode person has both arms and the average person is missing a fingertip or two, even though that doesn't accurately reflect reality.
