I agree that Twitter is not the best indicator of how the community at large feels. I think you're right that YouTube is where the pushback would be felt most because she can see the raw numbers on it. I don't know for sure if it was mostly non-niji fans, but it sounds like a weird kind of cope to me.

I also think that's true, at the very least on Twitter. I personally put only some stock in Twitter stuff, but I don't think it's useless or anything. I was more or less thinking that most of the Youtube stuff was where the pushback would be felt the most because she can see the raw numbers on it, and the time frame in which I saw it would largely be people that would have already been watching her while it was going on IMO. At least that was my own observation in the immediate aftermath of the stream. That's why I'm asking in the first place, because I don't know how you could know that it was largely non-niji fans. It sounds like a weird kind of cope to me. Maybe I'm just jaded from other properties claiming that it's always outside influences rating things negatively instead of fans not enjoying what you have put out lol.

I've been a huge fan of Feesh/NijiEn-girl for years, and I'm so sick of being attacked by male fans/CN fans/woke people just because I like what I like. It's ridiculous. Holo (+other) fans have every right to defend their interests, and they make valid points about why they enjoy the things they do. The fact that Selen and Pomu are the only ones who seem to have "survived" this wave of destruction is telling. Women are constantly attacked for liking anything remotely sexual or suggestive, while men are free to enjoy whatever they want without judgement. It's not fair, and it needs to stop.

To clarify, I believe that Gura absolutely is Sammie (wasn't meaning to dispute that), and that the old picture (allegedly of Sammie at a heavier time) is actually a cousin of Sammie's.

I forgot to quote your post and I'm too lazy to find it again so sorry for the paraphrasing, but you said something that I felt implied that most of the pushback she was getting was from non niji fans, and I'm curious as to how you came to that conclusion. Isn't it more likely that more than a few niji viewers are unhappy with her broaching that subject in the way that she did? Her video was already getting wrecked seemingly before any of the bigger agitators could even jump on it and amplify their distaste to outside audiences.

It's difficult to put into words, but the tone of most of the QRTs to her tweet seem to signify that they're coming from anime fans who have very strong feelings towards the politicisation of the word 'trap'.

Most of them don't even seem to be V-Tuber fans, but the ones who are use terms like 'NijiEN moment', or bring IRyS into it as some kind of paragon of trap rights. As such, my conclusion was that this was just serving as a microcosm of the turf war between the same types of people who didn't sub to Sana because her skin is darker than the others, and the types of people who tried to unperson MariMari for saying nigger on stream.

I don't doubt that actual viewers may be amongst the former and didn't like it, though, I just don't think the NijiEN community would try and harass/ratio her. Similarly, I don't think the people getting pissy at Calli for misusing Lean were Deadbeats who suddenly turned on her. Sometimes they just say something stupid and end up caught in the Culture Wars.

I don't dispute it's highway robbery but it's kinda standard fare for events etc. It is weird they subjected the vendors to the same bullshit they do the crowd but any time I hear someone start talking about the "inhumanity" of going 12 hours without food and that person's not a diabetic, my first thought is "lol get over it fattie". If they're genuinely forcing them to go without water and not providing any sources of water, yeah that is a legitimate problem though, to my knowledge most large events like that are actually required to provide free water if asked since there's a real risk of people in crowds being stupid and overheating and dying instead of paying $5 for bottled water...can't imagine why an anime expo would feel thats less of a risk in an LA convention center than anywhere else.
