Terrible people are often terrible to most people that interact with them. Most people leave their vicinity because they are sane and well. Vulnerable people will not leave them. They stay for different types of reasons: attention, people pleasing, naivety, thinking that this interaction is normal, etc. So when that vulnerable person stays and tolerates their behavior, the terrible person begins to interact with them more.

When people see someone like Elaine, they realize that she's insane. They also realize that she wants attention. Therefore, they know they can get almost anything they want from her by giving her smidges of attention and "good job" pats. It also doesn't help that she seems to be unable to leave the internet, meaning that they could constantly be connected to her.

If Elaine was sane and well, she would have realized that this was an issue. However, she has not learned anything from what caused her to carve into her thighs. In fact, it seems as though she just wants to forget it. So she is right on track to yet another manipulation scheme yet again.

The only thing that would be best for her is to get therapy to decrease those behaviors and find a medication cocktail that helps her and get off the internet.
