Mass shooting at Highland Park, Illinois Fourth of July Parade. Suspect is a male with large yellow army style backpack. Shots were fired about 10 minutes after the parade kicked off at 10 a.m. Monday, sending hundreds of people running for safety.
According to the ADL's Bradley Dlatt (Midwest ADL board member): "Highland Park, IL is one of the safest places in America with exceptionally strong gun laws. It’s also home to a large Jewish population. Someone was looking to make a point. Until we have real, nationwide gun control, nowhere is safe."
According to Highland Park locals: "Our town, Highland Park, Illinois, had a mass shooting at our parade. 20 shots fired, 9 wounded (or killed). Shooter was on the roof of a store on the parade route, and opened up 10 minutes after the parade started. The shooter was on the rooftop of Uncle Dan's sporting goods store on Central Avenue."
Village of Deerfield, Illinois: "Due to a shooting in Highland Park, Family Days activities at Jewett Park have been cleared and the parade is canceled. Please share that the parade activities are canceled with your family and friends."

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. — Highland Park’s Fourth of July parade was disrupted after shots were fired Monday morning.
Town officials on Facebook said suburban police was responding to an “incident” around 10:10 a.m. in downtown Highland Park. Witnesses reported seeing heavy police presence and fire vehicles.
The Lake County Sherriff’s Office said their officers were assisting Highland Park police with a shooting in the area.
Officials said Fourth Fest, scheduled to start at noon, has been canceled.
The public is being urged to avoid the downtown area.
Details surrounding the incident are currently unknown.

A Sun-Times reporter saw blankets placed over three bloodied bodies. Other people, running, were visibly bloodied. Police said it remains an “active incident.”
