If that Chink just said "It's my artistic choice to include Mandarin as is in my book" then no one would give a shit, but the fact that she had to make it about white entitlement (what?) is why she's being dragged by a couple thousand people on Twitter. Like many other examples of woke nonsense, they take what's a pretty insignificant thing and turn it into some type of social cause. No one could possibly care if this lady doesn't translate some words in her shitty book no one will ever read.

what an absolute crock shit man. I can speak and write 3 languages man, including chinese.
If you are selling your books to a chinese audience, you don't need to translate it, but if you are selling to english/international audience, then you absolutely have to.
If you can't write in full in any of those, then you just suck at both languages, no need to disparage the customers that buy your book.

This is always the super toxic aggressive mindset of sjw. Somebody non chinese bought your book and don't understand parts of it because you deliberately wrote in different language, and instead of explaining it, you call them "entitled".

If you don't understand, you aren't enlightened. If you ask for understanding, you are entitled. If you criticize, you are -cist -phobic etc. If you praise, you aren't doing enough.

For them it's never enough, you have to buy their stuff, and then be blamed for every fault of said product or any criticism of it. Then at the end of they day they say "you suck, so buy more".

You see this mindset permeates at every single thing they touch. Superhero stories will claim racism, sexism etc, even when the whole world and the gods themselves is supporting them. Economic systems is racist sexist etc even when they receive more privileges. Sjw is a poison.

The cherry on top is that she thinks she's sticking it to Whitey, but fails to realize this would alienate loads of other, non white people from various cultures.
And if she's writing for Chinese-American immigrants and their descendants exclusively , she shouldn't be that surprised by smaller sales numbers. That's a pretty niche demographic you got there, sport.

A manga series I bought that was published back in the 90's-2000's featured a section of footnotes in the back that explained the cultural aspects that influenced the work, as well as numerous phrases that they localized to rough English equivalents and explained the original context for full understanding for the audience. If they can do that in the pre-globalized internet days, this bitch has no excuse. She just wants to brag that she knows another language and rub it in her audience's face.

Except, difference being, she doesn't know another language. She only speaks English. She speaks Mandarin in the same way I can speak French or Spanish - I know basic greetings and a few random phrases that for whatever reason lodged in my brain.

It's always the first generation immigrant kids that go hard with this shit, despite having very little tangible connection to where their parents came from. The passive-aggressive tone is pure projection - if she actually gave a shit about her heritage, and the supposed importance of the language her parents spoke, she'd actually learn Mandarin. But she doesn't, so she didn't.
