I was thinking about BIG cities, proper concrete jungles. When California had those wildfires a few years ago that took out entire towns and killed quite a few people do you know what the response was? The Governor gleefully with the biggest smile on his face stood in the remains of a family's house and said "its global warming" and that was it. NO efforts were made to control wild fires with controlled burns or proper fire management. Same thing would happen again if a small city or town got wiped out today. You would need an important city like San Francisco, or Los Angeles to burn to the ground for there to be any concrete response, and it would still probably be "its global warming".

I get get pissed thinking back to the shit eating grin on that bastard's face when he said that, the videos of people cooked alive in their cars, the fact that all of it could have been prevented with fire management, AND that it wasn't a wake up call that they should start doing it.

The city of San Francisco is not at risk from wildfire because of its location, although when fires happen after the next big earthquake it will be devastated. The entire Marina neighborhood was at risk in 1989 after Loma Prieta, if the fire there wasn't controlled there were plans to dynamite Lombard to create a firebreak. But many other cities in the Bay Area are at risk.

Look at the destruction in Fort McMurry or Santa Rosa. Modern building techniques are great for protection against housefires. Giant conflagrations, not so much.

The fact that most of the canals that deliver imported water to California are open to the air is also stupendously inefficient.
Imagine running an aqueduct through one of the driest parts of the country and not realizing that leaving it open to air causes a significant portion of this imported water to evaporate into said hot desert air. On top of that imagine removing a good deal of your existing reservoir infrastructure because removing silt from the dam is expensive. Fuck storing local water when we can just steal if from other states so we can water our lawns in the middle of the desert.

The Colorado River no longer reaches the Gulf of California because of these people.
