The Final Fantasy Thread

Am I the only one that finds the pixel remasters still absurdly overpriced even during sale?

I legit dont think the pricetag justifies the very little changes and the new coat of "paint".

None of them have really any new content. They are just literally remasters of the very original versions without anything new added.

All of them should be 60 dollars at least and on the Switch by now, but lolsqueenix

I'd say more like FFXV,
Final Fantasy XV was open world, which is why they are making special mention of the fact that this game won't be open world.

What does that mean? Do they say? I guess it just means you run between theoretically connected zones but the transitions are done with artifice.

Like FFXII
I'm imagining a semi-open world like FFXII. Otherwise, they could be talking about an entirely linear level based system, like most of FFXIII.

The problem with Japanese people is they rarely ever respect the fucking stories they write. It's all endless kaizen-pilled fuckjob shit; on the rare occasion that they create a decent isolated story from beginning-to-end, they go and turn it into a cash cow. Is it respectable as a business tactic? Absolutely. Is it art? No.
We have it far worse in the states. I mean ffs, Spider-man has gotten 2 reboots in less than a decade in the big theater. Batman comics are still a thing after 90+ years. And let's not get started over the serialization of Star Wars. If anything the Japanese are far more reluctant to serialize, reboot, or remake their stuff outside video games and Shonen manga.

I'm going to have to disagree. Nomura is the one that came up with the pivotal idea to kill Aerith. Granted, he originally pitched killing either Aerith or Tifa, the endpoint was that it was important that Aerith die and it be permanent.

I don't think they'd go against that as it's such an iconic moment, not even for shock value. I'm willing to bet that they will do a fake out where you think Aerith has been saved, only to pull the rug out and actually kill her anyways.
Pretty sure that wasn't Nomura who came to that decision, nor am I aware of them having even considered Tifa to be a character until much later. In fact, I'm convinced the only reason Tifa was ever conceived as a character is simply because the writers felt there should still be a female character present in the end and they probably had to come to grips wondering how Cloud will get over his internal dilemma. In other words, they must have thought, well if Aeris was around, she would naturally help Cloud with his identity crisis/memory loss problem, but she isn't, so we ought to get another character to do that. Enter childhood friend Tifa Lockhart.

As for killing Tifa...or Aeris for that matter...what's the point? I know I mentioned this before, and it bears repeating again, but you guys do realize that there are going to be multiple versions of characters. There already is for Cloud. If anything, death will become seemingly meaningless assuming that the other versions of the characters don't simply replace fallen ones.

The biggest character in risk of death is Cloud since he can easily be swapped with Zack. Meanwhile killing any other character means Square Enix dumping all the work they already did on that character.
IMO they wouldn’t do that. Even in the realms of whacky twists. They’re too lazy to win back the trust it would shatter.

If they somehow avoid killing Aeris you will know that demons have officially invaded Square-Enix much like Cagnazzo did to the King of Baron

We definitely do not have it "worse" in the states unless you're saying that superheroes are fucking gay as fuck in comparison to something like Devilman. Most anime/manga is fucking gay as fuck too, but my point is sustained by the insanely higher media output Japan has in comparison to America. We're still dicking off with Star Wars and Spiderman, like 2 or 3 installments/reboots in a decade, meanwhile Japan is making volumes upon volumes of garbage in just 1 year, for an exponentially higher amount of individual series/IPs that came out as recently as the 00s or 10's. They make a perfectly good base story for only a handful of these in NA/EU such as Final Fantasy VII or Dragon Ball and then they start shitting down it's neck in some very insulting ways. Such as Genesis or Beerus, respectively. Most of the problems are the fact that they shamelessly retcon shit that doesn't make any god damn sense to the fans at all, it's very trashy. If you can't sustain a story without retconning a bunch of shit, then artistically the story needs to end.

Again, it's great for sales, it's the spine of genius in the industry, but they do this shit way more often and way more efficiently than America does. Even Berserk, which people jerk off like mindless faggots, and as good as it was, should've ended like 20 years ago. You cannot drag a story on that long and maintain it's artistic integrity.

Everything you've written here seems to be fucking retarded, but please explain both paragraphs, preferably with sources or some shit. Highly doubt they wrote Tifa in last minute and I don't know what you're talking about regarding multiple versions of characters. I am curious to know if you're just dumb or if any of that is real

The reason Berserk has gone on this long is because the author took years long hiatuses, not because he wrote material in all that time.

Oh they did. Sort of. She was like Jessie originally. Non-playable avalanche girl. Had a vague history with Cloud where he accidentally wounded her. Then she was made his childhood friend and other love interest when the decision came down to kill Aeris.

Calling him retarded for saying that is lolzy. Maybe it wasn’t last minute but if you’re discerning you can tell. You can see where her place was stitched in. She does hardly anything until disc 2. And what she does so is actually assess the truthfulness of someone else’s story, and also it was all in the past so it doesn’t disrupt the present too much (just inserted as flashbacks).

It’s been mentioned in a few interviews in more depth but I’m lazy so just linking Wikipedia. First paragraph of concept and creation. She’s basically Nomura’s OC waifu. Which is also why her characterization has varied quite a bit, as his mind changes a lot.

I'll get back to you on the first paragraph, but the second is plain as day. We clearly see Zack Fair and another Cloud pass by Aeris and Cloud

You're more than welcome to tell me the other Cloud is a figment of everyone's imagination, because otherwise I only see a lot of convoluted bullcrap ahead for the rest of the series. Actually scratch that, there would have been some convoluted BS anyway given the trajectory they're currently on.

Edit : I missed a moment ago what @Berrakh posted in response, and he (or she?) covered pretty much what I wanted to say. I would only add I never said, as you ridiculously claim, that Tifa was added in the last minute. My point was that whenever she was conceived clearly had to have come after they made the decision to let Aeris die. I admit part of what I wrote was still speculation in terms of their thought process, but as far as I'm concerned, it was completely sound.

You know the amusing thing I found out well after playing the game was that you get to play with Cloud, Barret, and Aeris in the original demo. If I'm not mistaken she was supposed to have been a member of Avalanche which is odd considering you wouldn't think a character like that would want to be involved with terrorists.

“If they cuck me again and sell me an incomplete boring game one more time, I’ll never come back to this series!”
-Me after 13, 13-2, 15 & eventually 16
How does Square do it guys, Kingdom Hearts 3 was so laughable & rushed it’s a sad meme, but I watch the trailer for 4 & I’m like hmm 🤔 maybe, why are they so good at making bad but buyable games???
I keep forgetting there is a Kingdom Hearts 3.
