I don't want to have to wait for a deathbed confession for justice to be served.BREAKING NEWS: Smurf in Hand still isn't identified.
The group in question was a group of Russians that developed the weird cult following of gadget from rescue rangers. I made a post about it elsewhere when it was relevant but there you go. I don't know if SA had a cult of anything other than dumb bullshit.Okay, this is a fuzzy memory from over a decade ago but I swear SiH got outed on Something Awful back before it went woke. IIRC it was a thread about the weird cultish following that formed around Gadget from Rescue Rangers which spiraled off to cover people with fucked up cartoon obsessions in general. At some point smurfs were mentioned leading to some goon getting oddly defensive and internet detectives outing them as the creator of the smurf shops in the OP as well as others for similar small characters like fairies and the gnomes from David the Gnome, all with that same weird real hands/illustrated character/flat background style.
If anyone still has an account there as well as archives I'm pretty sure it got goldmined, although it might have gotten purged with the rest of the actual funny content from early SA.
I'm doing a little digging and I haven't found anything about that yet but I have found some fucking classic shit.Okay, this is a fuzzy memory from over a decade ago but I swear SiH got outed on Something Awful back before it went woke. It's more of a meme cult from some Livejournal proto-furries.The group in question was a group of Russians that developed the weird cult following of gadget from rescue rangers. looked through archives, all I can find is one mention in a thread where someone asks if anyone remembers the Smurf in hand guy.Okay, this is a fuzzy memory from over a decade ago but I swear SiH got outed on Something Awful back before it went woke. Because grown people who still obsessively fixate on those cartoons and the singular nature of early internet fan forums - rather than graduate to adult life and plebbit or discord or other relevant sites - are generally emotionally and or mentally stunted.I don't want to go off topic but how can fans of an 80s children's show fly off the handle so quickly? It's like a common thing on the smurf forum with how quickly they go to ANGRY TYPING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE ANGRY. God damn, I spent more time on that cursed forum than I would have liked. I realize fandoms are like this but it's really offputting with smurf fans for some reason.
Deeker was Smurf in Hand.I wonder if we should have some kind of Cold Case folder for cows like this.
