Guarantee you that was because they wanted to fire them.

Employees have strong legal protection here, so having a super strict NDA that everyone breaks all the time is a good way to make sure you always have cause to fire someone if you need it.

Washing is not for sanitation reasons. Washing ground beef strains the fat from the meat. Soak it in hot water in a colander for a couple of minutes and the fat drains out. Why someone would want to alter the flavor like that is beyond me.
