UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Why are none of these "who could be next PM" articles talking about Priti Patel? She's the only one that puts a tingle in my dingle.

Sunak or Truss would be a disgrace. If I had to put money on it, I reckon Sajid Javid will take it in the end.
She's an authoritarian psycho. So perfect where she is as Home Secretary.

Listening to the speech again on the radio. The soundtrack of Bye Bye Boris behind this speech is amazing.

She also can't do her dammed job. Despite the hype, Priti 'The Warlord' managed to not only not slow immigration - as the party was voted in to do - but increased it to historically high levels.

That's being told to make a submarine, and instead managed to construct fucking Concord.

hates Cummings too, so no danger of his return either.

That's definitely a requirement of the office. No way should that guy weasel his way back in.

Ben Wallace is winning the polling of members and I wouldn't be against him even if its because he's not one of the other lot.

And celebratory beer from a company that keeps trying to win with the woke crowd despite having a horrible internal culture, management that tries to sue its own employees for reporting issues to the external consultancy they hired, steals ideas from interviewees, claims fair pay across the business while funneling funds into the exec's side businesses, and well too much other crap to list.

They're trying to put Raab in as caretaker and get Boris to just go. Why Raab? I have no idea frankly.

He's technically next in line, as he's the "Deputy Prime Minister". A role that never existed until 2010, when David Cameron invented it to give Nick Clegg something to do.

Wow, damn. Major Western country's leadership in shambles due to a shitshow economy/society/etc. Now we need to wait for Macron, Scholz (which is inevitable), the rest of of the EU, and (god willing) the USA to reach full chaos. I got my popcorn ready...

I don't understand: burger media is too retarded and ignorant about the world to pin down exactly why this is happening and British media is too up its own ass to actually recap the issues. Is Johnson stepping down just a result of economic troubles? They keep mentioning "frauds" and "scandals" and "lies" but won't provide any details--what exactly are they? It doesn't seem directly covid-related nor does it seem to be a backlash against involvement in the Ukraine conflict. Why were so many ministers and bureaucrats resigning?
