UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Can someone remind me what was so crap about Corbyn again? Apart from all the usual looney crap I remember him having some good ideas.
Him being widely labeled as an antisemite is also a good sign.
Communist
Wouldn't say where the money for his dumb programs was going to come from
Boffed Diane Abbott
That horrifying government broadband for all plot
Have you seen his fan club?

One of his policies was basically allow the government to redistribute people's private property if they felt the people they were giving it to had a greater need...

It was ofcourse covered in obfuscating language and given in very narrow examples where it sounded somewhat reasoable but that was the logical conclusion of that policy.

Name one bad thing Starmer has done and I could name multiple things Boris is responsible for which are egregiously worse.
He's fucking boring. No one wants to vote for him. No member of the general public knows his stance on anything.

Can someone remind me what was so crap about Corbyn again?

He stupidly admitted that if anyone nuked us he wouldn't fire back.

I wonder how much more radioactive a politician would be in the UK than the USA who openly advertised that he believed the British government should prioritize the well-being of the British people over that of corporations, NGOs, and ideology. Eurocucks have refined hating themselves and voting for their own strangulation into an art form.

Very. The media even the most right wing of news papers would be decrying the nazi running for office. You'd probably end up getting banned from public office under some extremist legislation, especially now they've put specific wording around "extremist right wing groups" that puts them under more scrutiny than left wing groups.

Don't forget the one kid that ended up with a safeguarding case and basically deprogramming (specialist therapy) because he looked up the UKIP website on a school computer.

Latest odds from Sky. Ben Wallace favourite, Gove a long way off thankfully.

American here. Seeing as it’s July 7th when I heard of this resignation, I could go on about this thing called “the right to bear arms” and why you oughta try it out, but instead I have to ask what the scene looks like in British politics, in that I’m wondering who’s going to be in the mix since the true believers in London won’t let Nigel Farage become PM as long as they draw breath (also because Liverpool just HATES the Conservatives with the passion of a thousand suns).

Also, does Prince Andrew have the same clout as the Clintons (especially Hillary) where he’s got a network of assassins under his command where they can murder pretty much anyone and make it look like something other than murder for hire, and is so lucrative and effective that high society and government officials also are lent these services and yet nobody talks about casually lest disaster strike, like theater kids and MacBeth? ( I mean, you guys were able to kill a NewsNight special about Jimmy Savile.)

Either way, here’s hoping that you can find someone that can at least deal with the grooming gangs issue with the force it deserves. And remember, it can always get worse if we’re any indication.

Here’s hoping Qatar is when it comes home. It still won’t erase the memories of 2010 and Robert Green.

For us.

Farage is yesterday's news' yesterday's news. A meme that fizzled before brexit was even enacted. He can't be PM because he is neither an MP nor a member of the conservatives party.

If that’s the case, who’s the new person on the block that the leftists get frothing mad over? Does Britain even have one? Do we have to find the ghost of Thatcher?

I have to ask what the scene looks like in British politics,
Tories and Labour, maybe a smattering of Lib Dems, who are looking to gain amongst former Tories in Remain territory.

Working class voters are generally done with the whole thing, so expect horrifyingly low turnout.

who’s the new person on the block that the leftists get frothing mad over? D
Priti Patel at the moment probably.

Up until yesterday it was Boris. Priti Patel is way more right-wing but idpol prevent them from attacking her which is funny. There's Jacob Rees-Mogg but he's a buffoon, not a threat.

After that maybe J. K. Rowling, which is funny because she's actually really hard Left (apart from the whole "being a billionaire thing) but the TERFs of TERF Island are doing a better job of annoying leftists than the right, which is embarrassing.

It has pretty much returned to business as normal after the splinter party shenanigans of the last few years. The likes of UKIP and change UK are dead and we're back to red vs blue with maybe a couple of oranges thrown in for fun.

Labour have gotten over their crazy leftist leadership issues and gone back to personality deprived leadership. The tories have gotten back into their caesering their leaders every so often. Both have headed right back to being a uniparty that pretends they hate each other while pushing the same adgendas except for small insignificant factions in each.

In reality there isn't really a hard leftist push nor a hard right push because neither of the hardliners sides have any power worth a damn. It's just carry on as before with crumbling infrastructure, London centric, globalist policy that no one likes but no one can agree on any alternatives.

Everyone agrees the alternatives are all racist.

They're trying to put Raab in as caretaker and get Boris to just go. Why Raab? I have no idea frankly.
You would get more brain activity from a dying slug than you would from Raab. The whole lot of them are useless, scummy shitbags either running for cover or trying to climb into some position at this stage.

Not our problem: they ain't NATO, they ain't EU. Sanctions aren't doing anything just destroying our own economy. On top of all that we keep handing them sacks of money which no doubt have an amount "diverted" into a few Swiss accounts on the way through.

Some bombed out city on the news: unfortunate.
£2 a litre diesel: crippling to the country.

Well that's gotta suck. Of all the things to copy from 200+ years after the breakup, and you choose that.

Think of Prince Andrew more as a unshiftable wart on the backside of the royal family. They are powerful (staggeringly rich, massively connected to the old Establishment) and Prince Andrew gets some shielding by being part of that. But in and of himself he's a useless, shiftless lump. So if he fucks up, expect people to cover for him. But don't look to see him despatching people. He's a goon, not a crimeboss.
