Personally, I do eat a fuckton of animals, but the ones I meet not on the supermarket shelves, I do try and keep alive if I can. I know I'm a hypocrite meat eater. Hey, if I had to kill meat to eat it, for it to be purely fair, and that was the only way to get it again - I would. I wouldn't torture anything though.

The only satisfaction I get from the kill when I hunt is by sinking my shot the first time, if that deer drops out of my sight instantly and is dead then I have a sense of pride. If not, then it is some heavy guilt that sticks with me even after I correct my mistake. I'm starting to get a pattern of phrases that keeps popping up:

1. "These creatures aren't human so it's okay to torture them." (They seem to ignore the fact that this is a being in a vulnerable position that is being abused)
2. "We aren't like pedophiles." (Ignoring the fact that in both situations, a vulnerable being is being abused so it doesn't matter.)
3. "Society also does some terrible things so we aren't that bad." (Because actively participating and seeking out torture is definitely the same as having clothes made from a sweatshop. Absolutely the same)
4. "These monkeys are filthy creatures so it doesn't matter if we do this to them." (Calling something filthy is one thing. Actively despising something so much that you want to see it suffer through torture and enjoying the torture is something that some violent criminals have against their victims)

The thing that doesn't seem to click in their heads is that mentally well people don't actively want to see a creature endure torture. That's not normal. It's not healthy. And that trait shows that they have something wrong with their brains and they share that trait with violent criminals.

Edit not to double post and also speak to the lurkers: Normal people often don't enjoy seeing things suffer. This is because they have empathy, a very normal emotion to have. Animals in particular in a group that humans don't like to see suffer because many of them see them as innocent beings. No normal person wants to see an animal be tortured. No normal person wants to actively participate or seek out an animal being tortured.

You are not normal. You are not well. You have a trait that violent criminals have. You are potentially a danger to society due to this trait that you have. If you told the people around you about this trait you have, they would become uncomfortable around you because you will be seen as dangerous.

I truly don't think they actually understand what they're actually doing. The equivalent of this in a food industry setting would be:

1. Hating cows with a significant amount of disgust that when you see a cow, you immediately want them to die and suffer.

Your post actually reminded me of a YouTube video I saw where someone was acted very similar to these people who look at the monkey torture videos.

It was a man filming an Asian chef processing crabs. I was watching it because I was trying to find a way to humanely kill shellfish before I steamed them.

Many Asian restaurants like getting items as fresh as possible so they will often buy live seafood and kill them for cooking that day.

So this man was watching a chef kill crabs over and over again. He would say weird things that clearly showed he was deriving some pleasure out of it. He often wanted the chef to turn the crab towards the camera so he could look at its eyes before the chef killed it. He also would try to to provoke the crabs into attacking him before they got killed.

It was extremely strange and many people in the comments pointed out how deranged this guy was acting.
