Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

All in all its only roughly $378 worth of merch for the price of that stupid $5000 'drink.'

I can think of a million better ways to spend $5000 than on this. You would have the be the ultimate Star Wars consoomer or a Saudi who spends money on dumb shit to buy this.
It also doesn't include airfare or accommodations, you have to find that on your own. Since it's only one voucher, if you want to bring a friend that could easily end up being a $15,000+ trip.

Though I suppose if you're the retarded kind of wealthy and jerk it to Vader it's probably not a problem.

>Drinks
Cheap, dyed liquor called Luke tears or hard blue milk x5; $10
It's not, the drink is (supposedly) mixed from really expensive liquors which run $1-3K a bottle and you get three shots of other very expensive liquors. It's rather overpriced since by the looks of the shots you'd probably get all three of those for no more than $1K combined and I doubt the cocktail would be much more expensive despite the cost of the drinks. Or you could make the damn thing yourself at home and for $5K worth of liquor you'd be able to make enough for an entire party. I'll be generous to Disney and say they're selling you this at a 200% markup from what a normal fancy bar would sell it to you for which by Disney standards is actually pretty fair.

You also get to keep the container the drink is served in which looks like a movie prop (and by Disney Star Wars standards is designed pretty well) but is probably cheap and will fall apart if you try and use it to serve drinks at home with.
>A Star Wars backpack
All Disney merch is manufactured as cheap as possible to maximize profits unless its with a brand collaboration; probably worth $15
>A Star Wars water bottle
Again, cheap plastic bottle just printed with Reys face or something dumb on it; $3
>A Hyperspace-themed room decoration
Plastic molded garbage unless its like an artists painting which is probably isn't; $30
>A bottle of personalized sparkling wine from Skywalker Vineyards
Skywalker Vineyards' list price is $120 for sparkling fuckin wine, not even Champagne; $120
(For reference a good bottle of Champagne is only $50-$60)
>A voucher to go to Skywalker Ranch
Napa Valley wine tastings range from $75-$300 depending on the winery and tour plan. Ill be generous and say Skywalker Ranch is worth $200 even though most sommeliers would never recommend it.

The only things that sound anywhere near worth the price are the drink itself, the container it comes in (I mean it's a movie prop-looking thing), and the Skywalker Ranch wine/trip. It's downright insulting they throw in a fucking water bottle and a backpack, unless they also look like movie props AND are ultra-durable made from high-quality materials.

It's just like the stupid Star Wars hotel, why would you spend 5K on a Star Wars drink unless it's being served to you personally by George Lucas, Harrison Ford, or a harem of Twi-lek slave girls--oh wait those aren't canon anymore.

I once nicely asked a consumer on another forum why he keeps the items sealed in the packaging instead of opening them and enjoying them, especially since they most likely are not going to appreciate in value over time. He and several other members had a full blown meltdown, saying they can do what they want, insulting me, and refused to answer the question.

So can someone on here answer why they keep their collections sealed instead of opening the product? Even if you collect isn't the point to enjoy what's inside the box? I'm genuinely wondering. I'm also wondering why I got such a hostile reaction when I asked that...

Instead of investing in the Stock market they think that the value will outpace the stock market.

Aka that they think there are bigger retards than themselves that exist who pay even more money than they paid to acquire said PRODUCT.

If I recall, BAPE used to be a very popular thing to wear back in the mid-2000’s. In the alternative hip-hop scene, people like Pharrell Williams who was the leader of the group N.E.R.D used to do a a well-known collaboration with the company to make his own BAPE clothing accessories

Fast forward to today, I know that Pharrell has stated that he does not wear BAPE anymore and now moves on to new work with his fellow collaborator and well-known clothing designer NIGO. Though, funny enough, I found this on YouTube after searching up these old videos dating back a decade-plus ago:

I vividly remember the Pharrell BAPE T-shirt when his album, In My Mind, was released. It just blows my mind that on eBay, someone is actively selling this for $1,000 online.

For me the most depressing thing in this thread is the Disney obsessed people. There is something about watching 40+ year olds spending tens of thousands of dollars chasing some sort of nostalgia high that is so fucking pathetic. They are so completely dissatisfied with their lives they need to go back to goo goo gaga baby brain mode to try and capture some happiness. Their lives are so empty and vapid.

I cannot fucking stand retroomers. I just wanted to buy some damn games for cheap, play them, and not have take out another mortgage to be able to afford it, so I feel you there.

An NES is not worth $200. A Banjo Kazooie N64 cartridge is not worth $100. They are both more common than dirt, massively successful, sold a metric tonne of copies, and can be had for free with emulators and downloaded ROMs. Shut the fuck up you stupid idiot asshole, stop trying to sell it for 2000% of its worth, and stop buying it just because muh Nintendo muh recognisable brand muh favourite manchild YouTuber talked about it. 🎩

By chance, or maybe subconsciously being drawn to it, I watched the AVGN Nintendo World Championships with Pat The NES Punk just a few days after I posted this.

It perfectly summed up my feelings of how things should be:

"Super Mario / Duck Hunt?? I only have 14 other copies!"
"No I really needed another copy of Super Mario / Duck Hunt, I'm making a coffee table out of them!"
"[...] Super Mario Brothers which you can get for like $2. Duck Hunt included."

"Now just think: we're playing on the reproduction cart, but if we were playing on one of those other ones it'd be the same thing! So what's the point? Just to play on an overly priced game cartridge?"

What the fuck happened? Both James and Pat acknowledged how silly game collecting is. At least back then, the highly priced games were the actually rare ones. Remember when Earthbound was considered rare and expensive, going for $100? Now that's the norm for common games. I'm not paying out the ass for some game that looks fun and I want to play. I'm going to get an Everdrive, an SD card, take a trip to emuparadise.me and just play the fucking game. Thank god Wii games are still dirt cheap.

I shouldn't have to spend more than a $1 just to learn Nintendogs is a bad games and not collectible.
Hey! Nintendogs is a great game. For kids.
It's pretty normal to find uninteresting some of the stuff you loved as a child. That just means you have grown up. I don't get why a kid game should be loved by adults aswell to be considered good for their intended audience.

I find it weird to see the distinction between adult and kids media so blurred out these days. I guess it's tangential to consooming, to appeal to the "collectors" market.

I think it's to keep that "joy of the new" high consoomers are always chasing. If it's still in the box, untouched, it's still new to their mind, and maybe they'll get the same pleasure from looking at it more than once.

Only thing that makes sense to me. The other alternative is "to keep it's value" but they can't ALL be soulless coin merchants, can they? (The rainbow sticker is 4th from the right)

It’s just the endgame consoomer mindset, where you buy for the sole high of consooming and nothing else.

I think it’s also partly the “investor” mindset, where they believe that 30 years down the road they’ll be able to offload their hoard for a small fortune, when in reality they’ll be lucky to get 50% of what they paid for it back.

I think its more about this mass state of arrested development and obsession with nostalgia. No one wants to outgrow their childish loves, they want to live in a world were the media they consoomed as a child has just as much value to them as an adult when they revisit it.

This is also a major issue with never ending franchises (Harry Potter, Mario, Star Wars, Pokémon, Marvel, DC) where it's an constant companion though a lot of consoomers lives that its hard for them to picture their lives without it.

Pretty much this. I have great memories playing it and I will always get a warm feeling about it when discussing old games from my childhood. That alone should be enough value for an adult to justify their childhood media.

Where it gets weird is the media allegedly aimed at kids these days like whatever's on Cartoon Network or new Pixar movies. The way they're discussed in the media you'd think they aren't aimed at kids at all but middle-aged childless manchildren and cat ladies.

Also reboots and live-action adaptations.

honestly nintendo shit as a whole is crazy cause of retroomers. gamecube game prices are fucking insane compared to playstation 2 and original xbox games, the only ps2 games that really cost a fuckload of money now are extremely niche japanese games usually but the gamecube? you'll be paying up the ass for a zelda or mario game

I don't know why it's mostly nintendo in specific, I guess it's due to N64/Gamecube not selling as much as their competitors? but it's also definitely some fascination with Nintendo being the disney of gaming

I don't think it has to do with how many consoles were sold. Nintendo autists/consoomers are a whole different breed. They'll do shit like buy the same games like SMB on the Virtual Console on every console they own, even though they never actually play the game.
This is also true. On other consoles typically once a game is remastered or re-released then the old versions become worthless because the majority of people want those games to actual play them, so there's no point in buying the old, inferior version on old hardware. Nintendo fans don't give a shit. They already own the Wind Waker on the GC and the superior HD version on the Wii U (which is literally the same exact game except with enhanced graphics) but they're not getting rid of either one, even if an even better Switch version comes out tomorrow. They basically hoard these games. If you actual want to buy a physical copy of these games to play you won't be able to do so because no one reasonable is going to pay $100 for an old worn copy of a game that was worth only a fraction of that brand new when these games were sold in retail stores. The only ones that buy them are people that blow all of their money so they can have them literally collect dust on a shelf.

Compare this to Xbox fans for example. All of the Halo games basically became worthless in terms of resale value once the Master Chief Collection came out because they were obsolete by that point. Fable became worthless when the Lost Chapters came out and that became worthless when Fable Anniversary came out which is now the only version with value because it's literally the only version you need if you want to play a physical copy.
