TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The White House said President Joe Biden would try to limit physical contact during his Middle East trip because of concern about rising COVID-19 cases — but the president swiftly reverted to his old-school, back-slapping ways after landing in Israel on Wednesday.

He doled out a few fist bumps after stepping off the plane but then threw an arm around Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid and shook hands with former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The issue of contact is arising amid intense speculation about Biden’s upcoming meeting with leaders in Saudi Arabia and whether he will shake hands with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who U.S. intelligence officials said probably sanctioned the killing of a critic.

It remained to be seen how Biden would greet other Israeli, Palestinian and Arab leaders during his trip, which includes a summit in Saudi Arabia of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Later Wednesday in Jerusalem at Yad Vashem, Israel’s memorial to Holocaust victims, Biden held hands and kissed the cheeks of survivors Rena Quint, 86, and Giselle Cycowicz, who is about 95.

“Did you see the president hug me?” Quint asked. “He asked permission to kiss me and he kept on holding my hand and we were told not to touch him.”

A new omicron variant, which is able to more easily evade immunity from vaccinations and previous infections, has revived concerns about the threat of the pandemic.

“We’re trying to minimize contact as much as possible where we can,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters traveling aboard Air Force One with the president.

But such precautions did not appear to be in place on Tuesday before Biden left for the Middle East, when he mingled and shook hands with members of Congress at a White House picnic.

Biden is set to meet with Saudi King Salman and the crown prince when he flies to the kingdom on Friday. The highly anticipated meeting is being closely scrutinized as the White House looks to reset the U.S.-Saudi relationship after a rocky start in the Biden presidency.

As a candidate, Biden had vowed to make Saudi Arabia a “pariah” nation for its human rights record. The president last year also angered the Saudis by publicly releasing a U.S. intelligence report that determined that the crown prince, who is often referred to by his initials MBS, likely approved the 2018 killing of U.S.-based journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a fierce critic of the kingdom’s leadership.

The Democratic president’s plan to meet MBS has been criticized by human rights activists who accuse Biden of backsliding on a vow to make human rights a central pillar of his foreign policy.

Israeli media reported this week that the White House had told Lapid’s office that Biden would refrain from shaking hands during the visit due to the surge in COVID-19 infections in the U.S. and Israel.

Jean-Pierre did not say whether such a message was conveyed to the Israelis.

Before Biden travels abroad, White House officials work with host nations to coordinate COVID-19 protocols, including testing for anyone expected to come in close contact with Biden. It’s not a perfect system, as Biden often decides to greet people in large crowds that may not have been universally tested. Separately, everyone traveling in the presidential entourage is required to be tested at least once daily, in addition to any host country protocols.

The no-handshake guidance comes as the White House has emphasized that COVID-19 should not disrupt daily life due to the availability of tests and therapeutics. Biden’s prior overseas trips — including a visit to Europe last fall during the surge in cases caused by the delta variant — did not include attempts to curtail Biden’s handshakes.

I imagine dealing with Biden and Co. can put these guys under some serious stress, no wonder they're snapping at anyone.
Americans have a lot of trouble with Israelis because Israelis speak plainly in a way that Americans and other Westerners find incredibly rude. He probably was drinking, trying to hook up with an Israeli woman, and she ripped him apart verbally. Happens a lot.

The Left and Proggie's in particular are frankly terrified of DeSantis and they should be.
I guess the Proggies all regret to have chosen creepy Biden.

Btw, when Biden ask where the real president is, let's said this is health conditions have gone worse.

Joe Biden hasn’t fooled anyone into believing that he’s really the president of the United States, not even himself.

Biden made some awkward comments following his entrance to ‘Hail to the Chief’ before the annual White House Congressional Picnic.

As Kamala Harris and Jill Biden nervously looked on, Biden openly pondered where the real president was..

“Folks, you don’t have to stand. Every time I hear ‘Hail to the Chief,’ I wonder, where the hell is he?” Biden exclaimed to the crowd.

“You think I’m joking, I’m not. I turn around and say, ‘Where is the President?’” he continued as his wife Jill began to stare at the ground awkwardly.

Speaking of Jews and Israel, got a "Representative" who's pals with someone who wants Israel and Jews destroyed. Good luck on that, bitch.

And money from Little Joey goes to incite violence against Jews.

Imagine relying on niggers and sheboons to destroy the JOOZ lol.

New Civiqs map. Mainland US fully conquered. Only BIPOC Island remains as Ridin' Country.
This is good to see as one thing but on the other hand....
With a good chunk of the Dems/Moderates/Independents who don’t like Biden’s economy or presidency, you can be like “Hey Gas is insane/border is disastrous/economy is in the shit hole/this transgender insanity is getting out of hand, Biden is doing a bad job” and they would likely agree with you. However, bring up Orange Man, and they go from semi reasonable and thinking human being into a sputtering frothing at the mouth mess about how mean Trump was and could never vote for him because of “personal morals.”

I can attest since one of my neighbors is like this, he fucking despises the Dems and their insanity but bring up Trump and he will snap to “HE WAS AN ASSHOLE!” Or “HE IS A DEMOCRAT PLANT!”

There was also that infamous picture of Hillary visiting a rural voters home and she has the most pronounced look of disgust and contempt on her face.

That probably didn't help.

Oh god I love it any time these threads lead me to seeing Queen Hillary physically offended by the presence of other people

What's the brown version of an "Uncle Tom"?

I don't care if they're the real deal, I'd rather have the right wing fake mexicans

I don't think they can get away with Deflation anymore. I think it'd be just as politically suicidal as hyperinflation, to take millions of people who've been told that the growth of their portfolios, the increase in the value of their house, etc is fundamental to their ability to survive in old age. So many people take every scrap of excess wealth they have and shove it into markets and assets to chase that obligation, that to have it not work as promised in such a distinctive way as deflation would cause would be politically apocalyptic, with the people voting in anyone who promises to make the red on their balance sheet go away, to make their house equity climb up again, etc.
Deflation would absolutely ruin everything: the deficit would increase in realized value, all owed money would increase in potential value, and people would literally stop spending money because it would be worth more tomorrow. Prices will even out a bit, but we should largely assume that inflationary changes are permanent and just try to get wages to balance out. Deflation makes Keynesians commit sudoku.

I don't think that the political structure can do much to stop the Federal Reserve, as the law regarding the appointment of Federal Reserve members states that they will continue serving until successors are appointed, and cannot ever be reappointed to the board once they've served a full 14 year term.

And considering Powell isn't set to be replaced until 2028, while the next board members who will have their terms expire are in 2024 and 2026, both of whom are democratic appointees, any political motivation that the Federal Reserve would have might be inclined to take advantage of Biden's status as a lame duck president within the first term to do what is necessary to save the system while also making sure that whoever puts in the next appointees isn't another Democrat who uses appointments to put social commissars into power.
We're going to hell in a handbasket, and only Maggie McConnell knows how fucked we are

Was the gas bill supposed to help? One thr things Biden's defenders bring up whenever he's called on the gas price is blaming republicans for not signing a gas bill that's supposed to solve it. I only ask cause they never elaborate what the bill supposed to do.
It was a gas tax holiday (read: a scam). It would save 18.4 cents a gallon and do nothing to solve the supply issues that come from telling people not to drill.

Weirdly, however, people have just recently started drilling again:

the past couple weeks have seen the most wells dug for quite a while. I'm not sure who's allowing the filthy wildcatting capitalists to drill, but this is an interesting development.

And this is getting the thunks out, CA FAG keeps popping up like he wants to be with the big boys. I can't believe DOCTOR Jill isn't traveling with her husband:

Not a good sign when the only puppeteer left is having to go out and do things herself to just tread water.

"Dear Lord, how plebian. And I need to pretend to like this peasant?"

He's a weird one, TBH. I've never been able to pin down exactly what he is. What I do know is that the UN absolutely hated his ass when he was our ambassador to them because he wouldn't put up with the usual bullshit, so... I can't really call him an outright snake.
Bolton is... Bolton. He is what I'd refer to as a "principled Opportunist". He will gladly slide the knife in without a second thought if it advances his prospects, but operates with a somewhat loose principled moral code of what lines he will or will not cross.

Makes me wonder if Jill wants him to be the Kamala replacement (assuming she isnt gonna ride her husband to the grave).

The Democratic Party probably view him more viable for 10 year plan.

That's a good way to put it.
