If so, this would genuinely make me feel bad for wedge. As you said, it is total speculation on my part - Wedge and Neck just strike me as the "internalized homophobia" type trans because of their past experiences in fundamental Christian (or I guess in Neck's case, Christian fan fiction) groups.
