I can sort of understand the dilemma. Some of the best artists in history were crazy schizos, some of the greatest scientists were most likely autistic. There's no denying that mental/physical disabilities and illnesses pave the way for many people to overcome adversity and do something incredible. But at the same time who cares if we won't have another Van Gogh or Goya if it ultimately means no one has to suffer anymore? But can't you argue that mental illness is an inevitable outcome of sapience and an inseparable part of what it means to be human, and in order to get rid of mental illness you'd have to completely strip people of all emotions and free will? IDK it's all philosophical bullshit and it's not like it matters because I highly doubt we'll ever find a perfect cure that doesn't simultaneously violate every human right in existence, but I can see why it might cause some people to get their panties in a twist.

HOWEVER, nearly all mental illnesses nowadays are perfectly treatable with the goal of making them go away, not outright disappear since that's impossible but the point isn't to keep a schizophrenic person hallucinating or an anorexic person starving. The point is to make it so their illness doesn't control their life and make every waking moment miserable. That's why this shit pisses me off so much, somehow society can agree that you need to take your fucking meds and go to therapy, but gender dysphoria is the ONE THING you cannot touch and actually have to encourage instead of treat. It's actual insanity, absolute clown world

I have a pet theory that troons are simply failing at recognizing other ailments.
I've seen a lot of them whine about dysphoria in public avenues and they seem to really be describing plain old depression, or feelings of inadequacy, not measuring up to standards, and less commonly flashes of lucidity where they almost realize their problems are their own fault but stopping right before they point the finger at themselves.
Then some egg cracka walks around and goads them into "yes that's dysphoria! it how it be!" or some sort of thing like that, and I'm guessing that reinforces the effect further.

I've noticed they fail to process or acknowledge things like grief, shame or regret, or dismiss other types of things that would be legit bad problems for normal people as unimportant. Given a lot of them are autistic and raised in very unfavorable conditions (I don't mean actual abuse, we know most of them lie about that shit, I mean being coddled or literally not knowing real problems, finding self-gratification through social media, fantasies and whatnot). That makes them unable to do actual introspection or empathy to know what is making them or others feel like shit. So they hear about this dysphoria thing that can be distorted into explaining any sort of mental discomfort and they embrace it. With a side helping of grooming, of course.
They literally don't know their emotions and are using dysphoria to explain away anything that made them hurt. I don't think that's healthy, to be honest.

It must also be very tempting to see transness as this One Weird Trick that instantly explains and fixes all of your problems. A lot of the things you mention require a lot of work to fix, and some never go away entirely. The type of people you describe aren't "just" depressed, they're lacking in coping skills, borderline or actually autistic, they're in a society that does not exactly make belonging and community togetherness an easy thing to achieve. So the two "solutions" they're offered are "do a lot of work on yourself and learn coping skills and maybe you'll start to improve your situation in a year or two, but you'll probably never feel entirely at ease or normal" or "you're a girl! Just order some HRT and put on a dress!"

Of course, the idea of trooning out being a quick fix is a lie, and the initial euphoria fades off.... but they convince themselves they just need one more procedure, or session of voice training, or a sexy lesbian partner to ease their dysphoria, and then it will work.

And when none of that works, they morph into the "depressed troon" stereotype you see more and more all over Twitter these days. They still look like men, repulse lesbians, have lost any normal friends or hobbies they once had, but still won't admit they were wrong about the source of their problems. The failure of their initial euphoria is ALL the TERFs' and the Republicans' fault. Look at this thread:
