I have seen many claims (with research) that for Hololive superchat income is just a speckle compared to other means of monetization like merch and sponsorship so I'm curious if people are just making this a bigger deal than it seems.

Superchat income is a big deal when the company is no longer taking 50% for basically doing nothing and just leeching off of the talents.
