Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

the point I am trying make is not all dogs are bad, the humans that own them are bad.
Not all cancers are lethal, still doesn’t mean I want cancer.

There are just too many stories of pitbulls raised from puppies in loving homes that ”suddenly snap” and maul or kill someone.

badly trained and or trained for dog fights pitbulls...
I've had a rotweiler and a pitbull before if you train them to be vicious they will be vicious if you train them to be good bois they will be good bois.
infact both my rottie and pitbulls were scared of mocking birds like neither could hurt a fly. shit my house was broken into once and both ran and hid in the master bedroom.

“I’ve never broken my leg, therefore broken legs are a myth”.

You’re really not doing much to defeat the common belief that only idiots and scumbags own pitbulls.

This is the dumbest argument ever.

Until my last dog died at 18 years old, I have had dogs my entire life. Never do I remember a time when I or family didn't have a dog.

We have never had to train a single dog not to bite or maul kids. Not one, not even German Shepard that I'm fairly certain had brain damage after getting hit by a car. Three beagles, a toy poodle, two chihuahuas, some kind of mutt thing that looked like a rat terrier.

If you have to train a dog not to murder your kids you shouldn't have that dog.

Is it normal if a chihuahua's first order of business is to hump someone's arm?

She isn't even a year old and yet she barks when there are big dogs, greets visitors for petting and hump's my friends arm.

Also she can't kill a newborn baby because lol the baby is bigger than her.

I know but then again a majority these attacks, could be stopped if stupid people can stop having dogs they're not prepped for.
I literally since childhood been surrounded by guard level/high needs dogs.
Before I had pitbulls I had rotties, rotties have the same if not similiar bite profile as pitbulls, they have been bred since the roman times to be effective guard dogs to the home and protect. (all agressive dogs have the same bite)
they are second to the pit bull in bite rate.
they can snap on a dime.
yet despite this they're not nearly reported as the pitbull.
and depsite this not once was I bitten.

the only time I ever got bitten was pulli. he was my neighbors dog and the meanest shit ever, pullis are a dog breed that specializes in herding and notoriously over protective of what they deem their own turf. they were bred to have mop appearance due to a thick water resistance and cold resistant coat and bred to take down wolves. despite this breed being possessive of its territory the neighbor would let the dog roam wild. thats why I got bit.

you want to know why? I understand and respect a breed of a dog before owning it. I get to know the stats and aggression rates, I research before I buy from a breeder, if I go to the breeder route, normally I prefer to adopt shelter dogs and cats.

the point I am trying make is not all dogs are bad, the humans that own them are bad.
Nigger please crack open a children's grammar book and focus on the chapters covering punctuation/capitalization.

Shitbulls will be on the highest dosages of prozac but still be neurotic as hell and destroy your living room because you were gone for an hour.

Funny how neuroticism and "neurological disorders" are so common amongst the breed. Almost as if that's their instinct and are extremely inbred.

They're not normal.

I don't understand why though? What's the point of taking a dangerous animal like a pitbull, that's also dumb and easily startled, and going to all that trouble?

They're too stupid to be effective guard dogs, you're not going to get any affection from it... If it's a rescue, okay fair enough a no kill policy is based on moral considerations... but to breed them? Why?
This is actually a good point.
Why are these people taking these highly attack-driven animals and assuming they can train and keep them as pets and protection?

This makes me want to lump them in with all of the people who own or want to own feral and/or exotic animals. And even that you need a license for that. Some places don't even allow this or certain animals are banned from being owned. How is a Pitbull different from a tiger in the sense of human ownership? I am sure a tiger COULD take down an intruder, but do you REALLY want to risk yourself and your family in that process? At least the Tiger is natural. Honestly this is even a bad analogy because wild animals are not bred to fight in pits. Even bear dogs aren't this aggressive toward humans.

Owning a tiger? Good luck.
Owning a bear? Good luck.
Owning a Wolf? Good luck.
Owning a Pitbull? MUH PIBBLE IS A NUNNY DOOG

They're not normal just as their pitmommies.
If there is one thing about Pitbulls they're good at destroying both the living and non-living.

They also function as the mark of Cain with how exceptional their owners are.

There are over fifty different dog breeds and they pick the most neurotic & lethal breed of them all.

Even this good boy? Hard to believe he's got a killer instinct.
The purpose of most terriers IIRC was to hunt small game and to serve as pest control. So yeah, yorkies would have a "killer instinct" but the only ones who should be fearful of them are mice and squirrels.

Put this good boi into a pit full of rats and see what happens.
Instead of being bred to see how many rats they can kill in a set timeframe, like this terrier, pitbulls are bred to see anything as a potential target.

I know people like to make fun of chihuahuas but I've found them to be good dogs. Very family oriented, and easy to do things with. Want to hike? He's up for it, (assuming you don't have one of those horrific inbreed ones that are too tiny to live). Want to stay all day in your house, he's cool with that too. Good watchdogs, and otherwise just great little companions.

But yes you bring up a good point. When a chihuahua has a bad day, no one cares. When a pitbull does - someone loses a face.

That little dog wants to murder everything that looks like a rodent to him. Everything.

And he will not stop until it is dead.

I love terriers, they're great little dogs. But that dog is probably 15 lbs and a threat to squirrels everywhere.

Mailmen? Not so much.

Alabama state worker is mauled to death by pack of seven dogs while following up on attack by same dogs

An Alabama public health employee has been mauled to death by a pack of seven dogs as she was following up on a previous attack on a woman by the same canines.

Jacqueline Summer Beard, a 58-year-old longtime employee of the Alabama Department of Public Health, died on Friday in the savage attack in Red Bay, close to the Alabama-Mississippi border, according to authorities.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Ms Beard had gone to the rural area to follow up on an incident earlier in the week where a woman was attacked by a pack of dogs.

Investigators believe she was trying to contact the dog’s owner about the incident when she was attacked and killed by the same dogs.

The owner of the dogs Brandy Dowdy, 39, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter and charges under the Dangerous Dog law.

Officers discovered Ms Beard’s mauled body when they were called to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Crumpton Road in a rural area outside of Red Bay.

When they arrived on the scene, they witnessed several of the dogs starting to attack some local residents.

Some of the dangerous dogs had to be put down immediately, the sheriff’s office said.

Officers then found Ms Beard’s body nearby.

The woman injured in the initial dog attack remained in hospital in Mississippi in a serious condition as of Saturday, reported AL.com.

A third person was also wounded in the attack in front of the officers.

The state health department paid tribute to Ms Beard as an “exceptional person” and “tremendous team worker” who had joined the agency almost 17 years ago.

“The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) extends our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and colleagues of Summer Beard, after her tragic passing,” an ADPH spokesperson told AL.com in a statement.

“Summer was known to her coworkers as an exceptional person. She was a tremendous team worker and was loved by those who knew her.

“It is a very sad day for ADPH, and we ask that everyone respect the privacy of the family during this most difficult time.”

Ms Dowdy is being held in Franklin County Jail on the charges.

Under Emily’s Law, which was signed into law by Govenor Kay Ivey in March 2018, owners of dangerous dogs can be sent to prison if their animals seriously injure or kill someone.

The law was named in honour of 24-year-old Emily Colvin who was mauled to death by dogs outside her home in Jackson County.

The woman whose attack is what prompted the state worker to visit Brandy Dowdy's home has died after a lengthy hospital stay. The state is pursing a second manslaughter charge for Dowdy, who made bail but was recently arrested for possession of meth. They are also seeking to revoke all bail.

"A woman who slept with her dog was almost eaten alive when the canine snapped and devoured “half her arm.”

Tya Lucas, 41, was at home in Lewisville, Texas, introducing her new puppy Roo to her friend Peter, 33, on May 16 when her nearly 100-pound pit bull Hercules went crazy.

“The puppy went to jump on the couch so I went to pick the puppy up and my friend told him to get down,” she told Kennedy News.

That’s when Hercules lunged at Peter and sunk his teeth into his neck.

“The pit bull jumped on my friend’s neck and he started bleeding. I was like ‘what the f – – k’. He was latched onto the back of his neck,” she said....

The dog tore off two-thirds of Tya’s right arm, ate her bicep and sunk its teeth into her leg and foot. She was screaming, “help me, I’m dying” when her daughter Tana, 20, and her husband Harley, 21, arrived.

“[Tana] saw the dog was trying to kill me. She reached out her hand to me and I tried to grab it but I missed her by inches,” Tya said.

“It grabbed onto my leg and dragged me further away. Her husband walked in and he beat the dog off of me. I don’t remember that part. I don’t know if I was passing out.”.....

“I don’t know how many times he bit me. I think it went on for about five minutes. I thought I was going to die. I fought somehow to stay alive,” she said. “A good two-thirds of my arm was torn off. He ate my entire bicep
.”

Pit bulls make up only 6% of the dog population, but they’re responsible for 68% of dog attacks and 52% of dog-related deaths since 1982, Time reported.
