From what I can tell (although I am not an insider) mainstream fiction publishing now consists of 80% books with tired recycled plots wallpapered over with cookie-cutter "diversity" plotlines, and 20% books by decent writers who were grandfathered in before the SJWs took over, or got a publishing deal because they were related to someone. The latter 20% sell enough to finance the losses of the other 80%.
(Minority authors don't even benefit from this much, because they also must fit into the exact "diverse" mold that is desired by the (overwhelmingly white) gatekeepers of publishing. If you're a black disabled gay author who wants to write a lighthearted space adventure novel, your diversity won't help you get a book deal. You have to also write about black disabled gay characters doing serious things like fighting racism, because "diverse" writers are only good for showcasing the anti-racist virtues of the white people repping them.)
As you said, unless they're bitching about how evil whites are, they're not getting a book deal. or at least not a successful one. Most authors have their work in the bargain bins of dollar stores. It's something even hobby writers such as myself are keen of (I used to go to a local writer's group and they'd bring in a few local publishers. The industry is very cutthroat). Sometimes fanfiction really IS better, or at least, finding your own audience who will promote your work.
The demand now is diverse characters bitching about white people, even if the stories are garbage. NK Jemisin and the other winners of the Nebula Prize are a few examples.
With books/comics like those from Mia Kolbabe, the demand there is solely from troons. Her book is softcore porn, with teenage girls giving blowjobs to 'gender diverse' boys, and said girls later get mastectomies. It's disgusting. But when you're artificially promoted and seen as a sort of pariah you get the deals.
Even if you are a talented writer the industry only cares about making their money back on publishing deals. You need to know your audience, find a good editor, and eventually own the rights to your manuscript and works (like JKR does) so you won't get fucked over. The one good thing about the Internet is that authors who do have talent can cultivate a loyal fanbase who can give them the feedback in real time and get them the attention they deserve.
Image tax! Colin tells on himself, does not realize that the reason he has never seen genitals in a changing room is because everyone hides in the stalls as soon as they see the crazy crossdresser:

KM has admitted he was assaulted by a man - how'd he know? It's a mystery - and that's why he demands he use the women's restroom. He doesn't want to be around other males, but he wants to shove himself into female spaces because it gives him a sense of power and sexual thrill. What was taken from him from other males, he can take away from women.
We know Colin gets really testy if you ask him about his cock chop or the guy who allegedly tore off his shirt in front of him. We know sexual assault of women is a laughing matter to him. We know who he's friends with.
The classic troon argument of: "I was assaulted by males, therefore my male body should be in female spaces because women are safer" is them casually admitted men are responsible for rape while telling women there is nothing to fear from males.
Colin, it isn't about seeing genitals. It's about men hiding cameras in stalls, men raping women in stalls, men masterbating loudly in stalls, men taking pictures of children, women generally feeling unsafe because there's a fucking man at the sinks and no one else in the bathroom - most of the time a bathroom is empty, so if a man is in there with you there's no one to help if he attacks. I'll be kind and assume that most trannies are harmless in the moment, but he's still a man and all women are wary at best to be in an inclosed space with a strange male.
It's never been about seeing genitals you fucking tard.
I'll give an example as well: while it wasn't a bathroom, it was an underground parking lot. It looked like something you'd see in those horror movies. While I was with a family member at the time (we went to a museum), I couldn't shake the feeling that if someone were to pounce on me then and there, there'd be no escape. And I am a small person to begin with. I'd break like a doll.
That is what women fear: helplessness. It's not a 'learned' reaction either; women's heightened stress and anxiety is an evolutionary response to threats, especially male threats, and it is integral to our survival. Other female mammals have this response too, including our Great Ape cousins.
