UPDATED 4:25 p.m., July 19, 2022 Fayetteville Police are investigating a shooting death that took place this afternoon inside a residence in the Woodbyne neighborhood off White Road. The discovery of the deceased person followed an hours-long investigation of what was considered at the time to be a potential crime scene.
The incident began when Fayette County 911 received a “trouble unknown” call around 7:48 this morning from a person whispering that they had been kidnapped by an organization and was being held in the garage of a residence. The caller was unable to provide a location, but dispatchers were able to trace the call and provide police with an approximate location. Once on the scene, police observed a person waving their hand from a garage window.
Police also observed a person walking a dog outside the residence, and when they approached the subject, the subject attempted to flee. The subject was taken into custody moments later and placed under arrest.
Nine occupants voluntarily left the residence when police by loudspeaker instructed everyone to evacuate. Officers at that time were told there was still one person inside.
Assisted by Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies and the Clayton County Police EOD Robotics Unit, a robot was dispatched into the residence to search for occupants. Police then discovered that the sole occupant was deceased as the result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police continue to investigate the incident, but traffic has been allowed to resume in the area.

UPDATED 3:45 p.m. — Fayetteville Police Chief Scott Gray said the deceased person found in an upstairs bathroom in the Woodbyne subdivision was a male, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
His name was not released at this time.

UPDATED 1:40 p.m. — Police Chief Scott Gray said entry was made into the home in the Woodbyne subdivision, with police finding a deceased person in an upstairs bathroom.
No other information is available at this time.
Noting that no shots were fired by police, Gray said the other occupants of the home are currently being questioned by investigators.
Gray said entry into the home was made by the Fayetteville Tactical Response Team, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Tactical Response Team and a Clayton County robotic unit.

As of early afternoon, no shots have been fired and there are no reported injuries.
Some of those inside the home have been removed, with police trying to determine if anyone else is in the house.
