His tendency to play backseat gamedev is what pisses me off the most about him.
I almost always bring this up, but here's a brief reminder:
David Sirlin was also a backseat gamedev and former pro Street Fighter player who didn't like the way Street Fighter 2 Turbo came out. But instead of quote tweeting like a teenage girl, Sirlin actually asked permission from Capcom to improve the game.
He was eventually given the go ahead, and he made Super Turbo HD Remix while working a full time job and paying for the game's development out of pocket. And while his improvements to the game weren't has widely received, it allowed Sirlin to put a foot in the door as a gamedev; he'd later go on to make several fighting game-based card games,: "Pandante", "Flash Duel" (which was centered on fighting game neutral and spacing), "Puzzle Strike" (a game based on Capcom's 'Puzzle Fighter'), "Yomi" (a card game based on reading an opponents net move in fighting games), and "Fantasy Strike", which eventually became a real fighting game known for its simple controls and accessibility.
Sirlin saw problems with ST and decided to actually do something about it. DSP sees problems in games and whines and bitches and complains with the thought that he's so important that gamedevs will look his way and make changes. But he doesn't have that kind of pull in the gaming community; in fact, he has the opposite. Phil can cry all he wants about games not doing shit that he likes, but they're never going to listen to him. He's a fly on the wall in comparison to streamers who actually do shit. Even Maximilian is listened to in the industry, and has actually helped in the development of some fighting games, most noticeably, Killer Instinct 2016.
