I could also see it as being Calli is the type to just listen and let someone air their issues, while Ame seems the type to take what someone says, come up with ways to fix what's bothering them, and most likely offer what she can to help.

I don't know of any fat idol groups but Nana Mizuki a famous Seiyuu whose also part Idol is currently married, had a child recently, and is 42 years old and is still doing concerts and such.

The name is Pottya. Seems to have debuted in 2015 and disbanded in 2017. Some members of Pottya joined a new group called Big Angel formed in 2018 and seems to be active. So yes, there seems to be a niche for it but in no way is it the norm. But the people seething at the fat comment can't seem to understand that.

The "western idol" talk has been interesting. I haven't seen Pipp's interview yet so I don't know the specifics, but it seems like the upsetti spaghetti people in question don't seem to understand that everyday Twitter-style performative activism is not part of the idol aesthetic. If you want to become a Japanese-style idol, you do as the idols do; you put on the fancy dresses, you sing and dance, you get pimped out to managers and producers, and you don't have opinions on anything except what your favorite kind of cake is. If you try to have it both ways and keep tweeting about #CurrentThing, you're not going to appeal to traditional idol fans and you really shouldn't be surprised if your career goes nowhere. Notably, I think most corporate western vtubers understand this, at least inside of their vtuber personas.

As for "mature" idol groups, would Perfume count? IIRC they started out as a teenage idol group but then everyone grew up and they just kinda forgot to disband and become housewives or whatever.

Blue supremacy must only apply to the girls. Unless something changes with Regis, I can't see him causing any big waves, given both his old persona and his debut one.

Both HoloEN dudes picked up ~20k post-debut (all four were sitting at ~60k before Regis and Magni debuted. The two are both above 80k now). We'll see what happens with the group collab. Should be interesting to see if the group collab boosts them at all.
