A Texas man is dead and a police officer is hospitalized after a violent confrontation near Houston on Saturday, July 23, according to officials.

It began around 2 a.m. when officers with the Missouri City Police Department spotted a vehicle at a gas station that had been involved in a robbery, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said at a media briefing. He added that the suspect behind the wheel had allegedly carjacked someone the day before.

Missouri City is about 20 miles southwest of downtown Houston.

When the vehicle pulled out of the gas station, the officers followed, Finner said. A short time later, officers called Houston police for backup.

Eventually, the suspect stopped the car on a neighborhood block, got out and ran, according to Finner. Police chased and he opened fire, hitting officer Crystal Sepulveda in the face.

“Multiple agencies” surrounded the area and started searching for the suspect, Finner said. Officers found the suspect in the backyard of a home. He began shooting at police, who returned fire, striking him multiple times, Finner said.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not released the suspect’s identity, but said he was between 25 and 30 years old.

Sepulveda, who has been a Missouri City officer for three years was hospitalized in stable condition as of July 23, according to officials.

“Our sister is a fighter and will survive her injuries,” the MCPD wrote in a social media post. “We stand beside her and her family in this time, for we know the road to recovery is long.”

and this is exactly why criminals get shot in the back and such when they steal cars and run from cops and then go and so something sketchy when told to stop. This is what happens when you don't shoot them

You'd be surprised at the number of cases in which this happens -- it usually occurs in attempted suicides with a small caliber firearm, but stuff like this can happen too. It's why trauma hospitals need to have a neurologist on-call at all times to operate as at trauma hospital, because there is a chance of survival for head trauma. That being said, he was probably using a niggardly firearm that didn't have much punch to it because a big caliber or a shotgun won't leave anything but brain matter for first responders to clean up.

If you're going to run from the cops you should probably strip naked before doing so and also hold your arms straight up and palms open, no way you could see that person as having a weapon. That way if you do get shot you'll be given a win-win scenario. You'll either win a civil lawsuit, or if you lose the suit you get to say "My dick is so powerful the police fear it" and have court documents to back it up.

Probably a Glock-19, then. They're obsessed with that pistol in particular recently, no idea why. One example: My younger brother does outreach for his church, and he often let's some of the local kids come over and play video games for a bit before they head out to the church. I was over one time and had my EDC out on the table, and forgot to put it back in the holster before the kids came in. One of them, who couldn't have been older than 10-11, steps in, looks over at it, and immediately exclaims: ''Damn, 'dat a Glock-19?!" (It wasn't). It used to be Glock .40s, I don't know when it changed, I don't follow modern rap music.

The article doesn't specify where exactly in the face the officer was shot. A shot that enters the front of her cheek and exits out the side would constitute a face shot, as would potentially a grazing wound to the side of the skull. With any luck, her brain was completely untouched. Here's hoping for a quick recovery. I'm glad the shooter got ventilated.

Extended mag, yes, but 2 pistols doesn't fit the bill unless he's too fat to run.

edt: nvm, he'd just robbed someone. 2 guns means crowd control.

I knew it would be a she-cop before I even opened the article. Women just don't have the "kill or be killed" instinct it takes to be a cop in a heavily Enriched™ area. You have to be ready to kill someone in the amount of time it takes them to draw a gun and kill you first, which can be less than a second. For that, you need lightning-fast reflexes, incredible hand-eye coordination, and most importantly, the willingness to take out a threat with zero hesitation. That's a suite of skills you only get from being male or being eastern European regardless of sex.

Yeah, it's called "running for cover" and if you start shooting from cover at someone who is charging straight at you, you win 99% of the time.

It's very hit or miss with female officers. Some are great but most shouldn't be out patrolling.

The best ones are usually the giantesses. I legitimately think female cops under 5'9 should not be on patrol.
