The only reason this is happening is because there's a large white minority in Francophone Quebexicans, and there's a surprisingly large number of Metis that have paler skin. China bans most depictions of LGBT in their media. The fact that China is just now having someone famous publicly troon out while America has had loads of famous people troon out for decades highlights how much more tolerant the US is to trannies.
Does disliking your government make it any less democratic? Besides, distrusting government is a core American value. China is a one-party system that has A LOT of ways to fight dissent, both subtle and very explicit. I know people that had Chinese glowies knock on their doors for social media posts and I dated a Taiwanese girl who is barred from entering China because her Taiwanese professor was very outspoken against the CCP.
