US Portland, Oregon Megathread - Tales from The Rose City

Didn't see much of a thread regarding all the fine antics of Portland and the people who live there, so I thought to make one.

Lesbian bar shuts down one week after opening because they weren't woke enough

Doc Marie’s is a lesbian bar that opened on July 1st of this year with the hope of bringing more inclusivity to the city of Portland. But just one week after their grand opening they were forced to shut down because of complaints that the bar was not a “safe space.” Similar to the story I wrote a few weeks ago about the queer-owned cafe in Philadelphia that was shut down by employees for not being woke enough, Doc Marie’s was cannibalized by the woke mob.

The crowd on opening day was huge. One woman said that the line for entry on opening night was “wrapped around the block” with “literally 200 lesbians” waiting to get in.

But the excitement about a new progressive hangout dissipated quickly. Within days, Doc Marie’s found itself on the receiving end of accusations of not being inclusive enough for trans people and people of color. Despite mask mandates being lifted in Portland, patrons accused the bar of not implementing enough COVID safety measures. Patrons also claimed that Doc Marie’s had “culturally appropriative art” on the walls.
One TikToker, who says she attended the grand opening, breaks down the accusations against the bar:

Employees of Doc Marie’s created an Instagram page to echo these concerns. They claimed that the owners weren’t proactive enough in creating a safe space and accused the owners of racism. The employees also demanded that the bar host “free opportunities for education” for the community.

Eventually, the employees demanded the owners relinquish ownership of the bar and hand the business to them. The owners were given a “24-hour deadline” to adhere to the ludicrous demands.

Just five days after opening, the bar announced on July 6th that they had to close temporarily in order to address the cries from the woke mob for a “safe and inclusive space.”

Surrendering to the woke mob doesn’t appear to be working out in Doc Marie’s favor, as the bar remains closed with no public plan to reopen.

Would you believe less than 15 years ago Portland was ranked one the hottest upcoming cities in the nation? It was heralded as a clean, safe and affordable city all of which was true at the time. It's hard to believe now but at the time it was a fantastic place to live. It only took maybe a decade to ruin an entire city.
I believe it, because I was there. Powerleveling a little, but I went to school in Portland back around that time, and yes it was incredibly chill and charming in a quirky, off-beat kind of way. And it was STILL affordable back then, too. What a fall from grace.

I would have loved to have lived the life of a white hipster from say 2006-2014, I bet it was loads of fun, I always dreamed about it and had some firsthand exposure to it and wanted to work towards it, but I lucked out because if I had pursued that I could have wound up stuck in one of these shithole insane asylums like Portland.
it was really really lame and all those people had mental health problems

There's going to be a vigil for that guy since apparently the police aren't allowed to shoot people that are violently resisting arrest

Overnight in Portland, police responded to a domestic violence call and scuffled with an armed suspect who fired a shot

Officers responded to the gunshot by shooting the idiot to death, as they do.

From what Andy Ngo tweeted, the guy wasn't black so... https://twitter.com/MrAndyNgo/status/1551253104569589761

And the best part of Andy Ngo's tweet: "...Portland to the shooting is to say that the armed suspect should have had the right to kill the cops...." And to think, they said they need the cops a couple of days before that incident because they got protection from a biker gang. :story:

As someone who spent most of my life in Portland, it really does make me sad to see what the city has become.

It was never some great utopia, but not so long ago it was a very laid back, easygoing kind of artsy quirky place. I used to love going downtown, checking out the Portland Saturday Market, all the little mom and pop stores and restaurants. Downtown Portland today seriously looks like something out of a post apocalyptic movie, I haven’t been downtown in close to three years because I’m nervous walking around there in the daytime, forget about night. And the leftists there all act like the “this is fine” dog and tell you you’re lying r crazy if you point out how dystopian it’s become. They can’t or won’t see the destruction and gloominess of the city

People had their quirks about religion or politics but it was usually a live and let live kind of deal. Portland always leaned left, but up until recently I never saw the raw vitriolic hatred I see for anyone who might be a right winger (hell libertarians like myself get the nazi label thrown at us there as well) or a Christian or a white heterosexual male. I used to see these loonies on Tumblr and think “it’s just a bunch of retards online. Normal people don’t think and act this way” yes they do, they all moved to Portland.

I miss the atmosphere and chill vibe my home city used to have.

Last time I was in downtown Portland was 2019. I exited a restaurant in the middle of the afternoon and a homeless woman walking by called me a “white piece of shit” lol (she was white). Then a few minutes later a very enthusiastic black guy was walking the streets with a giant trump flag and I got a picture with him, which made my sister very uncomfortable. Portland was still “weird” at that point and I guess it still is but for different reasons.

I can believe it was a nice place around a decade ago as most US cities were being cleaned up and turned into white hipster playgrounds around that time.

It's actually kind of hilarious how straight into the shitter US cities have gone since then, I'm sure a big part of what went wrong was racial minorities who did interact with these white hipsters hardcore guilt tripped them for all the silly good times they were having and it ate away at them and drove them insane.

Because now with the benefit of hindsight we can see that what we called "hipster" culture was fundamentally white people taking back their own culture and reclaiming urban spaces and checking out of the whole "diversity" thing, not that they consciously realized it, they would have sworn up and down they weren't racist, but eventually they were forced to put their money where their mouth is, forced to understand what was really going and had to then ghettoify these hipster playgrounds back into shitholes in order to hold on to the "not racist" claim.

Similar deal with why nerd culture was attacked and ruined, at some point they realized what was going on with that stuff, that it was was white people checking out of diversity and going off to do our own things and oh boy, we can't have that.

Oh fuck the hell off, white hipsters are one of the reasons this all happened. They were born cucks with terminal pretentiousness and will die as such.

That what was I was saying, white hipsters cucked out and their gentrified playgrounds were ruined with their own help.
Well, “hipster capital of the world” has been a label I’ve used for a while. And when I met someone from Portland, they did that yes, Portlandia is a pretty accurate description of the city. Funny that the city hates it now.

Portland's utility as a port ended when super mega ultra sized transport ships became the norm. The Columbia River is massive but its still not big enough for those beasts.

I was optimistic about potentially getting the Trailblazers to leave, but BLM is a Chinese owned organization just like the NBA.

If Antifa succeeds at driving out Nike and Intel then the city really is going to die. The bad news is that both companies are hyper-woke and use the poverty in Portland to justify their own social justice schemes.

I had this exact scenario happen with a close family member. We drove through downtown about a year ago and it looked like Berlin in 1945. When I tried to bring it up and how the rioting had damaged historical buildings it was like I was being gaslit into believing I was just overreacting. That everything is just fine when the entire vibe of Portland has changed since the riots. I think at one point he even tried to make the argument that "it was actually the proud boys and Nazi's that did it!". The amount of outright denial and lying done by Portlanders is fucking sickening. They watched downtown Portland be torched by Rose city Antifa and other "anarchist" (see: communist) groups like that and now pretend like nothing happened. Most of the rioters got a slap on the wrist and were released shortly after.

I had a convo with a relative almost exactly like that. Stupid thing is, he has lived his whole life out in Buttsville, Yamhill County, and I spent most of my hours in downtown pdx since I got my first high school job. So I know what it was like in the 90s, what it was like when the NYT started showering praise on it around 2010, and that what it's like now is a sickly diseased shadow of that. But he's a Riden With Biden boomer and insisted that it was them trumpers and natsees that threw mortars every fucking night from May to January during that election year. Still gets me mad thinking about that conversation and the extreme belligerence and rudeness my polite "well, ok but I was there and" evoked.

The idea of neo-Nazi's marching through 2020 Portland streets is so detached from reality it's comical. It's a city in which just having a MAGA sign or bumper sticker puts you at a massive risk for assault or vandalism. There is no secret underground faction of neo-Nazis in Portland. The fear around the proud boys is completely irrational and hysterical. They have no presence in PDX. Outside of showing up for a rally or two where they fought with antifa they are non-existent.

One of the big lines of 2020 was "Antifa is a concept/idea not a group!" as buildings were being burned and as we had mugshots of Antifa members in the local news. It's like they think if they admit Antifa took the city hostage for months on end it gives the MAGA Chud's fascist's a win and they can't let that happen. They would rather watch their city go to hell then ever admit orange man was right about something. It's surreal as all hell. People I've known for years who are intelligent highly educated people were parroting these lies covering up for a domestic terrorist group. I went as far as to collect half a dozen local news (all from extremely neutral sources) reporting's of violence and serious vandalism and email it to that family member I argued with about downtown and was ignored. Just flat out ignored.

Portland used to have an amazing book store that I'd drive down from Olympia to go through.

Last time I was there was about six years ago and they were having some kind of fucking march or some shit for something I didn't fucking care about.

Look, faggot, get out of my way so I can get to the VA. I don't care that some hippy got batoned in the face.
