Found a witch in the wild. I don't practice Shinto, but even I know that's... Not how the religion works.
edit: I need to get better at cropping...

i don't know about open or close but Shinto practices are very closely tied to place, if you don't live in Japan where the kami are enshrined then you have to establish them yourself and start making shit up that is not part of an old established tradition, at that point who even cares.

Pretty much. And while there are some kami enshrined in America there aren't many. As far as I'm aware 5 are in Hawai'i and 2 or 3 are on the mainland.

Edit: I double checked and there are 8 in Hawai'i. So unless you're living in Hawai'i, where Shinto has an extremely big cultural footprint, the chances of you actually being able to perform Shinto rites is very low.

Technically you can't convert to Zoroastrianism, but that's less about gatekeeping and more about them not really having a formal method for it. I don't think they'd give a shit if you called yourself one, provided you walked the walk.
There are edgy Iranians who hate the government and Islam who call themselves Zoroastrianians.

There was a Shinto priest who was asked about this and she replied that Shinto would validate Americans enshrining George Washington as a Kami.

I've never personally met anyone who deems any religion or practices as closed to one specific culture or race. Everyone from different backgrounds have been very opening and welcoming to introducing people to their faith. The only place I've seen it come from tends to be online schitzos
A lot of the ones who are "closed" are decidedly recent. I slightly suspect they saw what was happening in New Age woo woo and was like "fuck that shit, ban the middle class white people"

RepubliKKKans better watch out...

Seriously, I'm starting to worry these bitches might have legit brain damage. Do they not remember all the Fuck Drumpf spells they cast back in 2016? None of those worked, either.
No silly. By casting all that magic at Trump, all they did was tie more magical energy to him as a person. Feeding the concept of "Trump" and giving power to the thoughtform.

This is hilarious because 99% of Japanese people don't consider Shinto even a religion, it's just something you do. It's why you can easily find ones that consider themselves "good christians" but still attend Shinto ceremonies, etc. The Japanese do not care if other people participate in the practice, but Reddit sure does.

EDIT: Now Shinto in its "classic" form? That's a different can of worms. But they also hated everyone that wasn't Japanese at the time so that's normal.
Thanking the local kami (or leaving milk out for the fairies, etc.) isn't the same as worshipping a diety you think is the literal creator of the universe so I can see how they can reconcile that.

Let's trap him in a cherry tree. Call his sprit back from wherever it is and just shove him in there.

Small kami are basically fey, right down to kidnapping children in the woods, so you aren't wrong. Only the big ones like Amaterasu (goddess of the sun, writing, and matron of the Imperial family) don't jive with Christianity, and even those have been relegated more to folk hero status than actual religious figures lately. I guess you could look at Amaterasu more as a patron saint of the Emperor than a direct divinity anymore.

Besides, the Japs are good at syncretizing religions. There's a saying: "You're Shinto when you're born, Christian when you marry, and Buddhist when you die." I.e., they perform the Shinto rites of birth on you, then you get married in a Christian church, and then your funeral follows Buddhist forms.

Vikings (2013) and its consequences have been a disaster for pagans.
Man, I'd love to see this fucker try to storm a monastery in the 1200s. Even those soft target DYEL monks who've only heard stories of swords would kick his ass while laughing.

3 years later real Vikings come, kill them all and take the gold but the stories those monks would tell in those three years...

Nice cosplay gear, bigfoot. Careful while running around in the neighborhood's local woods while you 'fight the man' 'cause you'll get covered in ticks and easily infected scratches.

You ugly retard.

This really makes me wish Odin and his divine wrath were real. I guess I'll have to settle for waiting until these retards 41% themselves.
Sadly there are no known holy laws about cringe on the record.

That's cute, where is your gambeson padding, chainmail and weapons, hell where is your helmet?
that leather offers no protection against even the crudest spears made out of twigs and flint I can find in the woods and I can see all your vitals are unprotected, that's no bueno.

"Never give up, never stop fighting. Protest, sign petitions, vote. Don't stop fighting until we are all equal."
First off, that is the most cuckolded battle plan I've ever heard, "Fight the sytem using the system" rarely ever works and your end goal of "make everybody equal" is antithetical to a warrior since you'd want to be the best to get into Valhalla.

Have I missed the mark somehow?

No, you haven't but the only people less versed in their own theology than Christians is non-Christians.

An altar to Fenrir posted on r/pagan...

Honestly, this is embarrassing
"Oh mighty fenrir, please accept this weird ass tray on my cheapo particle board desk. I have also added a thin piece of nerd cardboard and a plushy I have jerked it to. Amen." Then they sprinkle crumbled beggin strips over the tray and hope for the best.

Seriously if you're going to attempt to pray to something you should at least make it not so pathetic that even you personally would find it meager. Doubly so if you intend to pray to a destroyer figure. Not that I think Fenrir would answer any prayers as he's really just a giant fucking wolf who is destined to murder some important figures. Does your prayer involve murdering Odin? No? Then you're calling on the wrong thing.
