Current forecasts are projecting that world population will top out at 10 billion by 2100'ish then start declining as the last 3rd world nations finally get decent standards of living and start

After 2100...well the wheel will spin and we'll go from birth control to begging people to reproduce. See Japan as an example what will happen baring WW3 or Climate Change eating everyone's baby.

Part of me wonders if this is the "Great Filter". That intelligent species simple boom up quickly then fade away as they slowly stop reproducing due to high QOL, selfish cultural trends and dependency on technology.

Well Idiocracy is more about the US education then population really.

What the UN is projection is total population.

So for example if we take the current average western reproduction rates (1.2 children per couple) and extrapolate that for the eventual world population of 10 billion it comes out to about 1000 years before humanity is extinct. Now that's just simple math and I'm sure the last few decades or so would have humanity desperately trying to extend itself using....some means. It's 1000 years in the future so who knows what technology may be available. Hell humanity may do a 180 and start supporting families and stop vilifying reproduction within your lifetime. (lol)

Again Japan is a great example due to their no immigration policy. Right now they're begging people to get married, have big families and well...we all know how well that's working.

Hell even China is waking up to this, they're starting to offer many "incentives" to families that have 3 or more children. Sadly it's not working very well either for varying reasons.

Honestly IMHO this is a much bigger issue then people are aware of. Once the source of immigrants dry up (as Africa and India come up to first world standards) the world population will rapidly contract to about 4 billion over the course of 600 years then plateau for a few decades then slowly fade away over about 400 years until population is basically zero.

Humanity won't end with a bang but a low whimper fading into silence.

It would level out before that.
You get too few people and birth rates go back up because demand for goods and competition for jobs goes down and optimism rises.

Cultural norms can change a lot in 1000 years. Plenty of time for more cycles of baby booms and busts. Humanity won't die just because of a single fucked up generation or two.

There is a male birth control option called RISUG, or reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance, which has been proven to be more effective than hormonal birth control for women, have no recorded complications, and is applicable and removable with a simple outpatient injection into the vas deferens.

AFIK, the FDA isn't even trying to run trials on it. It's too cheap and effective to be permissible.
