This is a real product from around the era of Pentium II processors. It might be the way modern computers work now, but it baffles me that CPUs were installed by expansion card like slots for like one generation. This piece of hardware converts the slot to a standard socket.

Honestly, not sure if this is cursed or just weird. I guess showing this to someone who has little to no knowledge about old computers would be confused as fuck though lol.

Ah shit I remember those, I was a little kid but I recall when they shifted to those cartridge things with the PII and celeron, then everybody who bought the first PIIIs got fucked when intel went like "lol now heres a new improved version but its back to sockets!" so your new PC was basically shit now, back when even a cheap one was $1500 in 90s dollars, so you couldnt upgrade unless you used one of those cheap chink converters like the ones in your pic that barely worked at all
